flexible urethane arrived (and man was it expensive...)

Post by nope-mx3 »

Wow, I ordered a 1 lb box of 94A urethane from Mcmaster-carr on the 5th.
I put in the special instructions that they had to get back to me before they had the order confirmed.

Then today, DHL came at the door with my CF hood, and to my surprise, the box of urethane.

The surprise was even bigger when I checked my account, they had actually charged me with about $107 USD...

$27 for the urethane and $80 for the shipping...

Suffice to say, I had never ever agreed to such insane shipping costs...
I could have added $130 and gotten brand new Mazdaspeed engine mounts instead...

Must say I`m pretty surprised they didn`t mail me a quote on shipping...

Mike (Zoso124) filled in my mounts with urethane.

But it was <$10 for the stuff. I'll have to ask him what I used. He purchased it and filled them for me while I was @ work one day. Be forewarned this stuff does not try overnight. we put mine in the oven and it still wasnt dry all the way through. Be prepared for alot of drying time.

the $10 urethane is not air or heat cured. It is actually cured with water. Just run it under the sink as you put the beads of urethane in place.

McMaster doesn't read the notes, which makes me wonder why they bother. I only lived 5 minutes from their place, so I told them to hold it for pickup. Instead, they mailed it and got me for shipping that I didn't need to pay. I passed byt the place every day for work, why did I need to ship it? :x 94A is too hard for me, though. I got 60A, and I thought that was hard.

i am currently filling my mtor mounts (finally in the process of my swap AGAIN)

i'm using that windo-weld 60 shore A stuff...seems to kick some azz

I bet they raped you on the shipping b/c of some stupid "hazardous material" fee's. I dunno how that could be considered hazardous but since its a chemcial it must have some kind of tax/fee associated with shipping it.

Just remember my tip from above, douse it with water everytime you put another bead down.

hey gro.... i looked up the windo weld stuff and found three different types, 1- windo weld super fast urethane
2- windo weld resealant
3- windo weld flow grade resealant

does it matter which one i use? i just looked it up in the 3m site but i didnt see anything about 60a 80a etc..

The two part urethane that McMaster sells is nothing like the stuff in the tube. The tube 3M stuff is pretty inert. But one of the two parts of the McMaster urethane is pretty brutal.

The reason the shipping was so insanely high is that they used a box that was 2 to 3 times (atleast) too big.

Combined with 2-day DHL international express (thats damn expensive)
