intercooler set up
i am haveing a heck of a time trying to fit the intercooler i have in my car. i have two but both are not cooperating. the first is off a 89 toyota celica. its the water to air kind. no matter how i adjust it it will either fit the turbo outlet, or the im intake, but not both. its a litle too long so it kinda sits on the turbine too. the other is a air to air(going to be made water to air) with both intake and output on the same side. but its alittle too wide. i would have to turn it kinda sideways and run the output under the turbo and around over the top to the vaf. i'm useing a millenia im so it kinda sits like the k8 does. everything is so tight in there once i do get a intercooler to fit its going to be messy looking. oh well, its not how it looks its how much it performs.

Re: intercooler set up
yeah fitting a water/air intecooler in the engine bay must be so difficult unless the IC is realllly tiny..good luck with the water/air IC keep us updated

Re: intercooler set up
i'm about half tempted to just not run an intercooler for a while. just use water injection. i was going to use both but nothing is cooperating. what do you think about useing flexable exhaust pipe as a intercooler pipe?

I think it should be alright if you don't do the bends too sharp

Re: intercooler set up
YAY!! i figured it out. i jud had to turn the water to air intercooler on its side. it fits good now. i just have to run to pipes to it. i will have room for a bov too. i have to run the pipes around the turbo and back to the vaf. it should be done this weekend, and hopefully running too.

Re: intercooler set up
well, i dont know yet, it started raining so i had to stop for now. i wount be able to pick back up until wendsday. i got the pipes welded, painted, and in but the tubine sits about 1/16" away from the starter wire and 1/4" from the distributer cap. its all very very tight in there. i have the turbo bolted in. i have the intercoolers water pump and some of the lines in. i have the charge pipes welded and grinded. but i have to wait until wendsday until i can finish i think theres a gap between the exaust flanges. i'll have to wait to find out. i might have to use another gasket. every thing should be done soon.

Re: intercooler set up
Just a note... water/ methanol/alki injection is good up to 20 psi of boost safely with NO intercooler.
Some grand national guys take out their stock IC setups in favor of water injection and have successfully run up to 25 psi of boost without an intercooler, running 11's in the 1/4 mile.
check it out www.turbobuick.com
Im going to use methanol injection to run 15 psi of boost on my KL. Right now Im at 10ish and an intercooler is definately not necessary.

DSM intercooler
If you want I can take some pics of how I setup my intercooler. I used one of an Eclipse. I did move my battery to the back but it looks good and when I put my hood scoop on it will be perfect and it helps with the sleeper look.
