Led-rearlights are so called 'afterburners'

This is a shop who made a custom rearlight afterburner conversion, which has gone into production, for more info look on the site http://www.fast-styling.com/ft-2e.html and look for the mx-3

That's one big wing. But 1499 of Euros or Dollars for a pair of Hella LED clusters reto'd into stock lights seems pricey.

I thought the same thing, compare to the other products they deliver, the taillights are way to expensive...

Someone give me $1500 and I will build you LED taillights w/LED blinkers that also will pretty much be legal as well. Just kidding, just wish I even had time to build mine.

The price is in Litas - national Lithuanian currency, 1USD = 2.80 Litas, so you can calculate how much it costs

Try:
http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm

About 3/4 ths of the way down they have right angle led bulbs. I don't know if the work properly in our car.

I did replace the 3rd brake light with:
http://autolumination.com/906.htm
and they work great.

If you want LED taillights you can't just replace the halogen bulb with some replacement with about 10 LEDs in it.

The only option you have is retro-fitting in some REAL LED modules that truckers have been using for years. You can find some at Grote, as well as searching for "LED truck taillights" in Google.

It's the same with HID, you can't just use some cheap replacement "kit" for your halogen bulb, you have to get the whole deal.

There is a reason those LED "bulb" replacements are illegal, along with HID "kits."

One major factor is that LEDs only have a very small angle of light spread, basically so that you can only see the light straight on, or thereabouts (very unsafe).

Modules meant to re-place the whole light, like those for trucks, have the LEDs angled all along a curved board usually, so that the light spread will mimick what your "flutted" lenses use to with a halogen bulb. Either that, or they have a lense that is specially designed the spread the LED light properly.

Retro-fitting some LED modules is not that hard either.

I'd suggest using some altezza lights since they have the clear lense (which you will need if you want the look of little light dots like LEDs produce), and then depending on what LED module you chose to fit in there, cut out a hole for it and JB Weld it in. Since LEDs last for a very long time, you will probably never have to replace the module, and if you do, then just cut it out and glue a new one in.

You can get 4" round modules that will fit just perfectly into our taillights, and as such, would require less cutting and fitting as well.

Making some LED taillights is easier than making projector headlights, so don't be afraid to try it.
