I got my car now for around 4 years...I only changed ignition coil in disty, front swaybar endlinks and 2 rear struts...I guess it's not bad for a 14 year old car :D

um.. what?! did i read this wrong? u HAVE changed your oil since 1998 right?

I said regular maintanance. I didn't change my oil every 3,000 miles and change my filters and sfuff like that. I did that sfuff maybe every 6-8 months at a time.

markmore....everything you mentioned except the egr valve are wear out as you drive it parts..any car with 45k to 50k miles need struts, they only last for so msny miles, all brake parts wear, and will get stuc calipers if you throw pads on without lubing up the floating parts on caliper.02 sensor must wear out,it is blasted by hot exhaust gases,cv joimts wear faster if you drive wild, especially if ya nail it around corners,id say the last owner didnt do that stuff so you got stuc with the bill, these are quality cars, and i know you love yours..where in jersy are you?

jimishadow, i live in south jersey in a town called medford lakes, half hour away from philly, where are you at???... i've just been a little bit dissappointed that so many things needed to be replaced after only owning the car a couple months, that's all... but you're right, i know that these things do wear out over time, it just seemed to be a lot all at once... like you said, the person that had it before didn't take care of it, let alone baby it like i do... yep, i got stuck w/ the bill, but oh well, i'd still buy the car even knowing all of this... the car had 65K on it and i got it for only $1400!!!!

60-70k miles is where things like valve cover and timing belt need to be changed.

I'm very content with my 92 gs, it has almost 300,000km on original engine and still runs strong, with only regular maintenance needed to be performed....nothing major

yea i know they do jimishadow, that's y i just changed my tranny fluid and am gonna hook up a recently purchased transmission cooler(thanks to a lot of advice and guidance in the ATX forum)... my plans right now are to run on my ATX until it craps out on me, then swap to a 5 speed... of course that's tenative and subject to change.... as for all the work on my car, no i dont do it all myself, but i have a church friend of mine that's been a ford mechanic for over 30 years... he doesn't make a profit on any of the parts he puts on for me, and charges $25 hr of labor... can't beat that w/ a stick

Besides the pos distributor, i haven't really had a problem with my car. THe brakes never performed to my satisfaction, and after replacing the calipers, lines & a proper bleeding I still am not satisfied with the feel. Other than that i haven't had any problems..never broke down on me other than the 3 times when my disty blew up

my wonderful list of damage since i bought the car 10 months ago:
distributor
both cv axles (the drivers side replaced twice, the passenger's once)
timing belt
water pump
spark plugs, wires
springs and shocks
wheel bearing
valve cover gasket twice been replaced, still having issues sometimes.
battery

i cant remember what else, i should..i've spent enough money you'd figure i would remember all the stuff i've replaced.

no offense to anyone but I made sure the mx-3 i owned, had nothing wrong with it.

only thing that broke was the alternator and I traded in the car because of it
