Resetting Temperature Gauge

Post by millionflame »

Just as the topic states, does anyone know how to reset the temperature gauge?

After I installed indiglo gauge faces my temperature gauge just goes all the way to the top right away.

I probably turned the needle too far or something when trying to stuff it in the hole.

I tried just turning it back a full 360 degrees to see if that would do it, but it did not.

I have a feeling that my gauge is almost useless now, and it would be easier to just get another gauge cluster.

However, will I have to reset that temperature gauge as well?

Or, will it just plug in and work??

As far as I know, no one has asked this topic either, which seemed weird to me. I couldn't pull up anything close with the search, so I suppose this would be a good one to add to the database as well.

As far as I know the temp gauge would have to work off some sort of thermocouple. That would mean the gauge itself is probably ok and its the wiring to it that has the fault. I think grounding the wire to the gauge would make it go full scale. Could it be shorted behind the gauge panel?

You wouldn't be able to reset the gauge itself.

If this is the fault, you may need to reset the needle though if you've moved it on the spindle.

Maybe.

I suppose I'll just have to get another gauge and see if that fixes it.

I think you just broke your needle. A new temp gaud will be required. There are 10 mx-3's at the Malahat Auto Parts in Victoria if you wish.

Thanks Taras, that's good to know.

Malahat is not to bad from what I've heard, just slow when shipping parts.

I think I'll try what you suggested to someone else in another post, un-screw the gauges and maneuver them into position first.

Then I wont have to fiddle with the neddle itself at all.
