anyone ACTUALLY know for sure?

Post by Redlined »

I have been told that the escort 90-96 year springs/coilovers fit the mx-3 but does anyone have them? I havent heard of anyone that has. I know of the struts but not the springs only.

My friend has a 90 Escort, totally did it up, wrote it off. And he says I can take whatever I want off his car. Hell if I need it I can take his ACT Stage 3. But I already have a new Centerforce.

They use the same suspension as us so yes, all of their springs and coilovers will fit. I'm using some escort ground-control coilovers right now on my car and some zx2 struts.

the suspensions aren't the same.

They do use a few interchangeable parts though.

The swaybars from the MX-3 are unique.

The springs all interchange.

How about the balljoints? It seems the balljoint "shaft?" dont know what you would call it but the extention from the ball to the spindle itself, is bigger than the X3 Balljoint. However, they do bolt up. Also, the mounting plate seems shorter.

when I replaced one of my balljoints, the part was exactly teh same as the ones I used on my protege 2 years earlier.

The only difference in the MX3 suspension is the control arms, trailiing arms and the swaybar setup, everything else seems to interchange.

Ok that just confused me more! Rofl. So the Protege balljoints are the same as the X3? instead of the Escorts balljoints?

The problem i have is this. I went to Hedahls and bought new balljoints for MX-3. Previously i had gone and gotten a balljoint from an Escort GT and put it on the car. It seems ALMOST the same but like i had said earlier. The stem piece that fits in the spindle was a bit bigger around and the mounting bracket a bit shorter. So now i put the ones that are supposedly for the MX-3 onto my car, my friend Jason and I are driving and we took a corner. The smaller stem piece fell out of the spindle, the tire slammed into my fender, bending my just completed sanding and priming job. So....... To say the Escort one and the X3 one are the same is not exactly correct. I measured the two stems and the Escort on was almost 3/8 in diameter bigger. This could have gotten people killed if i had been at cruising speed.
The really bad part is that my spindle is not formed to the size of an Escort and if i want to go back i will have to replace my spindle. Egads!
