Good brake pads

Post by Brainless »

Hi!
What are the best front brake pads (that won't destroy my discs) I can get for my mx-3? Right now I'm looking at EBC and KVR. What are the other choices?

carbotech makes some really cool stuff.....as does Cobalt friction.

hawk HPstreets are always a decent choice too.

how hard they'll be on your rotors depends on what compound you get.

KVR pads are fine.

Cross drilled rotors are a waste....an appearance only modification that slightly increases the chances of brake rotor cracking.

I'll second the Hawk suggestion, as well as the suggestion to stay with solid discs. If you want to reduce fade in a track situation, try rigging up some brake cooling ducts from the front end to the brake discs. A more open-spoked wheel will help, as will small lips (that stil out maybe 1/2 to 1 inch) at the front of the wheelwell. It will cause a low pressure area near the wheel and suck more air in. I've seen these on a ZR-1 track car and it was effective in helping cool the massive front discs.

Anyone know of aftermarket performance rear brake pads that come with the shims?

This may sound strange but I will endorse Wagner Thermo Quiet pads. They are carbon/metallic and make no dust. I'm using them and they are great with my Surestop Xdrilled rotors. I wouldn't say they provide as much stopping power as the KVR's or whatever but for both street and track these pads are good quality for the price. Better than OEM at least.
