Post by blkmx3_v6 »

ok, i've used the search tool and have read a lot of information on suspension upgrade. i'm almost 100% sure im going with dropzone coilovers. what struts should i get to support them?....i should also mention that i dont like the idea of putting zx2 ford or some other foriegn part on my car. did anyone ever install the Chassis Tech coilovers that are going for $119.00? How did they work?

though the experts will tell you that there arent any available struts for the mx-3 that will work well with the dropzones, i say go with what you can afford. I have a set of KYBs that i plan to use.

If you want to buy these then you are obviously not concerned about quality and saying this you might as well just chop your springs for $40 and use the rest of your money for an aggressive body kit.

You don't like the idea of using a Ford part...
Ford used an evolution of Mazda's BG chassis for the ZX2. It's not like taking something totally unrelated and using it. Its from basically the same chassis. Just like the Protege and MX-3 share MOST of the same chassis, other than track width, and the associated pieces.
The KYB, or Tokico "regular blues" for the MX-3 are NOT suited for the dropzone springs. it WILL be better than stock, but it wont last long, and it still wont be properly dampened.
ONLY the mazdaspeeds or koni inserts will CORRECTLY dampen the car with the spring rates that coilovers come with.
So basically you can swallow your pride and buy some ford pieces and spend less than 250 bucks all said and done, or you can spend at LEAST 500. Your choice. I dont think you're looking for the benefits of the konis or mazdaspeeds, so i'd recommend that you take another look at the ZX2 struts.
[ March 16, 2003: Message edited by: ProtegeSTS ]
