Need Help! FORD Escort & ZX2 Struts CONFUSION...

Post by miztahfoolish »

I was trying to gather everything I need to lower my '93 MX-3 GS and I already have the 91-96 Escort lowering springs which made me wonder if its going to fit ZX2 struts or I have to get the 91-96 Escort struts to use them with,
1. Does ZX2 and regular Ford Escorts has the same suspension?
2. Can I use the 91-96 Escort lowering springs with our stock MX-3 struts or ZX2 struts?
3. If I have to get the ZX2 struts, is there a particular year/s of ZX2 models that I have to know before I go to the store to buy them?<p>Any info would be so much appreciated, Thanks

just to clear things up the escort coilovers will not fit on zx2 struts. unless you want to shave the shaft down on a new strut to a unsafe level, then do it..I have them both sitting in front of me right now. If you want coilovers and zx2 struts get some zx2 coilovers too...

ok, here is a little info that might be helpful.
I have zx2-Tokico struts on my mx, and h&r springs for an mx3. When installing them on zx2 struts all you had to do is enlarge the hole in the upper spring seat, and everything did fit perfectly. Instead of this, some people would just buy upper spring seat (metal piece that goes on top of the spring, after it is installed) from a zx2. They fit just fine, so you shouldn't have any problems with those zx2 springs.
Another thing you can do, is just measure the upper/lower diameters of both springs, if they are the same than you are fine. Also the zx2 strut are about an inch shorter than stock mx3 struts, so the zx2 springs are supposed to be lower as well. They will definetely fit, but your ride might be a little too low.
hope this helps
