A Few B6T Swap Q's

Post by Technica »

Hey, what's up mx-3.com? I've got a complete 323 gtx swap from an '89 and I would like to know if I need the 323 gtx wiring harness for my '96 platform to run the B6T or can I swap over sensors to my '96 harness. The (the backyard Mechanic) brilliantly hacked up the harness real bad.

Also, can I use the turbo axles in the '96 mx-3? (i have turbo tranny and ECU, hubs and suspension assembly)

Thanks :pimp:

I have the 1.6DOHC Turbo B6T . I also have a 1.6DOHC B6 out of my 96 MX3. I do have some remnants of the B6T Harness(bit of splicing to be done), presently on the operating table (what a mess)My B6 Harness is complete(the one outta the MX3).

I have an Auto tranny in my MX3 that has over 300 000km on it so using that is out of the question.

I do have the B6T tranny, hubs and suspension, also ECU, axles and harness.
The question is, can i use my MX harness or try to salvage the B6T harness?
Should I use MX axles? Or the turbo axles?
Thanks guys I REALLY appreciate it.

Oh yeah, which clutch is hydraulic in the 323's, turbo or non-turbo?

O.K. -

So you've found another auto tranny from the GTX? I suppose you could use the GTX tranny if it's front whl drive. Ditch the suspension and hubs, the Mx-3's hubs should support the GTX axles.

I would reccomend the GTX harness if you can salvage it. The 96 Mx-3's harness is very different and won't plug up to any sensors for the GTX engine. You do have most of the sensors for the GTX, right?

Does the GTX gearbox have a slave cylinder mounted on the front? That should be an indication if it is hydraulic or not.

Thanks again JayDog
The GTX tranny I have is a 5-speed and FWD. Im going to convert my MX-3 from auto.
It's nice to know I don't have to use the 323 hubs.
I do have the sensors, but some are severd from the harness.

Can I use the starter and alternator from my MX(96) on the 323 Turbo engine?

Yes, you can use the starter and alternator from the Mx. You should also be using the starter, charging harness from the Mx also that connects the starter, alt., battery, grounds, and relays.

Awsome, using my MX starter and alternator helps bigtime.
What about the OEM turbo piping on the B6T? The original one has a metal pipe that narrows as it goes over the valve cover. But most B6T's I've seen that have been rebuilt have either rubber/alum./or stainless pipes that don't taper off before it reaches the BOV. Should I follow suit and ditch my original pipe? What is the adavntage?
Thanks
