Hi,

I bought a BPT and I got alot of informations before doing this. I though it would be quite easy for the ECU management if I would be able to find an ECU. Finally, I think that I need the wiring harness and I read in the forum that it's a pain to do that wire job.

My question is, would it be easy to use a BP wiring kit (I would ask for in a junk yard) and match it to a piggy back fuel management system?

If I go the stand alone way (which I'll take only if it's really easier for the wiring part, because I wasn't looking to spend that much on the ECU management), is it hard to install?

I'll get the informations and give it to my mechanic. He's +20 years old experienced but I don't think he's really good in electronic (I'll talk with him this week-end to ask him that) so I'm basically wondering what is the easiest option that give some good results.

BTW I'm NOT looking for a reprogrammed 1.6 ECU. I've not heard good things with that.

swapping the harness or putting in a stand-alone is a toss up. i'd say the stand-alone is easier, but that's me. giving they are similar pains, the stand-alone makes up for it far more than the stock gtx ecu setup.

Any idea how much time it involves? For someone doing it the first time?

Get the stand alone. It might be a little easier to wire but like Ash said, makes up for your time lost in wiring. The BPT ecu and harness will just let you run the stock settings and thats no fun.

Ok so if I go stand alone, the wiring job is easier, cool. Any idea on how much time it involves?

Also, if I choose that way, would you guys be able to send me fuel maps so I can load them into the stand alone system?

I would probably choose the same stand alone system than you did, the haltech.

Anyone has the schema for the intercooler on the BPT and/or things around the MAF? I've not asked to my mazda dealer yet but I'm not sure if they can get it (because it's not a local engine) ?

Well, I think I'll check at the mazda dealer because I'm not sure to get an answer here. I'll be back with infos if I can get them.

plan ahead. if you're getting the haltech, you don't need the maf. i had custom piping through-out. the factory piping will work, but very hard to get ahold of, and not worth the hassle.

I went @ advance EFI in Longueuil (beside montreal) and they suggested me to go the B6ECU + Piggy back.

But as for the MAF, for anyone who did the swap, which MAF did you used? Mx-3? Rx-7? Protege?

I can't seem to find the answer in the forums.

Nah man go stand alone. I know its more money but it will be worth it in the end. The piggy back system such as the S-AFC will only take you so far. Some people are running them fine, like cjthor, but I would say youre better off with a haltech.

Yeah but it's not answering to my question about the MAF :) I know when you have the stand alone you can remove it but if you do not, what do you do?

My mechanic want to know absolutely. He's not the one who'll be doing the electronic job so we'll do it with a MAF first. I'm actually looking for a BPT ECU with complete wiring + knock unit. If I can get it, I'll need a MAF, wouldn't I? So I still want to know, to know more about all the options possible.

At this point, I'm probably not going with the stand alone.

if you have to use a MAF you have to put it before the turbo, that's pretty much it.
