MX3 93' GS SE VS. MX3 94' RS
A few nights ago, we had a meet in at where I live, there i met a guy who owns a really nice mx3 Gs special edition with leather electric windows etc...etc...., I had never been in a v6 mx3 before so since the guy was really nice i asked him for a ride......the tone of the v6 was of course really nice and the car seemed to pull quite a bit...compared to mine at least!
My car is a 94' mx3 with the 4-cyl DOHC, so anyways after the meet the guy followed me on the highway cause he lived around my place, so once we got off the highway we lined up at a red light, i started talking to the guy and i reved up my engine.....not really wanting to drag but just kidding around! So all of a sudden he looked away and reved it up while keeping the rpm constant....so right away i knew he wanted to race so i looked at my tach and did the same leaving the needle at about 4300rpm, while doing this i hear his tires screech and for some reason quickly look at the light and then his car leave the line, AND ONLY THEN drop the clutch, i must of easilty lost almost a second......my start was really good with just about the right amount of wheelspin, his launch was not quite as good so i did manage to gain some lost terrain in first, then i shift into second and his rear is just on my front bumper, he doesn't gain nor lose any ground until at around 5000rpm where he very very slowly gains ground, hitting third again he very very slowly gains..............After hitting about 110-120km/h(65-70mph), i was very surprised to see how very close the cars where, At first, i thought i was gonna get totally humiliated by the v6, this was certainly not the case!......If and i say IF i would have left at the light, i would of certainly beaten him!
The moral to this story is that even though you might have the v-6 mx3.....you SHOULD NOT look down on your fellow 4-cyl mx3er'z, the 4-cyl mx3 might not pull as hard as a v6 but it has in my opinion better top end....it builds speed very gradually like a civic or any honda engine for that matter....Both cars WERE manuals by the way and both were in really good condition with similar mileage!

The Only Thing I Do Envy from the V6 is the sound it makes.....what a symphony!
For the rest, performance-wise, to my surprise the difference is slim!
Jean-Michel Basque
Qc, Canada

theirs only about a 30 HP differance in the cars I believe (plus a V6&tranny weights more)V6 are only better in my opinion cuz you can get more HP out of them with mods.
------------------
Thanks,
Teri
'93 MX-3 SE soon to be a GSR
http://www.geocities.com/warmachinex0/MX-3GSSE.html
Re: MX3 93' GS SE VS. MX3 94' RS
Actually the difference is only 25HP.
Not enough to blow some one out of the water.
Also, there's no telling how the other guy was driving. He might not have been driving and shifting as good as you were.

Today i took a look at the manuel at the shop and a rs gives 88 hp@5000 rpms and a gs gives 105hp @6500 rpm,so i think were not far from the range.

A 25hp difference is in my oppinion a big difference, not enough to totally blow away someone but enough to leave someone a good way behind in a 1/4 (a little more than 1s in the 1/4)
132hp of course when you think about it is peak hp, the GS's v6 i think makes a fairly lousy use of these 132hp and 6-cyl, the average output at the motor is probably much less than 132hp, the dohc from the Rs on the other hand...seeing such a slim difference in acceleration gives me the impression that it makes much better use of its tiny 105hp thus averaging out something that resembles or comes closeR to 105hp.........performancewise you could compare a civic si(in canada) with a 1.6l sohc & 127hp putting out very close numbers o the GS.....but then again you could compare my 1.6 dohc with the 1.6 sohc vtec putting out lots more....anyhow all i know is that in small displacement engines such as ours......25hp is a lot..., and don't forget the torque!
I still love the sound the V6 makes though...you gotta respect that!
