Supercharger for the V6?
well i've read alot about turbo chargering the v6, but i was wondering and looking into a supercharger set up, has anyone tried this before and what type of power increase will i look at, also what are the pros and cons of this set up vs the turbo, and where can i buy a nice supercharger

be nice everybody,
yes been done, it's a bolt on depending on what type of blower you go with. Vortech bolt on, Eaton will require significant welding etc. For the most part SC will carry the WOW factor and sounds really cool, but turbo is more efficient. I'd supercharge mine, I guess, but you'll gain more with a turbo in the long run.
Pros....instant power vs turbo that requires time to spool up. The faster your engine goes the faster the SC turns. SC sounds wicked cool.
Takes (depending on type) 6-12 hours to install one.
Cons. Parasitic energy loss. SC uses engine power to work. It's that much power less going to the ground now. Turbo uses exhaust gas, keeps 100% stock power plus boost power. SC keeps say 80% stock power plus boost. So turbo is more efficient and provides greater power overall. SC takes power to make power.....that's dumb, when a turbo uses waste to make power....and that's good.
This is the short answer.

I'd like to add to Darren's argument of turbo over supercharger...
Let's not forget that the mx3 is a front-wheel-drive car. And most of us stick with the stock open differential. Taking all that into consideration, I'm assuming traction would be a serious issue with the supercharger. Atleast the turbo would kick in later on in the powerband, where (hopefully) the car will have more traction.

i say go for the supercharger 1 no one has a supercharged Kfze engine that is every claimed to have one. 2 hmmm considering no one has a 2.0 turbo charged motor either so everything would have to be custom and cost alot more, not to mention the 10:1 ratio of the 2.0 is a factor with the turbo you can run about 9pnds. dave you should really talk to me more if your serious about doing it ive done a bit of research already since im am rebuilding my engine and modding it to work as nice as possible with the SC. And i will be the 1st SC KFZE MX3

Not true. The turbo puts a good amount of exhaust back pressure in the engine. Usually 2 times the boost pressure, if the turbo was sized properly. So you lose some power to that. Not a completely free lunch. It is for sure a lot less than the drag from a supercharger.Originally posted by Darren Hyderman:

Yes, the turbo will be more efficient than a SC, but the choice depends on whether you are primarily interested in efficiency (gas mileage) or performance. If its performance, what is it for? Lively acceleration in everyday traffic, or times at the track? If its the latter, and you keep the revs high through the run, the turbo will, I believe, normally have the edge. But if its more for everyday traffic, the SC will give better performance increase (torque) at lower revs, and you may prefer that type of response.
So I don't think there's a "right" answer. One size doesn't fit all. For interest, the new Mini Cooper S, which is selling like hot cakes, is supercharged.

Yeah, but the cheapest fast car these days is the Dodge Neon SRT-4, turbocharged and only $20k for sub 6 sec 0-60 times. Mini S is about $23k, looks cooler but 0-60 times are still in the 7 sec range. Pay your money, make your choice: do you want to pose or rule?Originally posted by IanL:

often OEM superchargers are more cosmetic than anything. nothing a decent upgrade can't fix

Completely off topic but the 2004 Neon is even more insane. They include the stage 1 upgrade- 550cc injectors and upgraded ECU. They also include a Quaffie Diff. The price went up $1k though, it's now $20,999. They dyno bone stock now at a little over 245hp and over 250 torque. That's just crazy.
