quick question

Post by tiburon »

What is the factory wastegate set at on the BPT?

Free reving in my driveway(I know this is bad) I'm getting pressures of 10+ on the boost gauge. I was under the impression that the factory seting was arroud 7psi not 10-13.

now many rpm do you rev it to? i don't see how you can reach that high of boost w/o a load on the engine. the factory gate is about 8.5psi

Also, how are you controlling your boost? Apexi, hks, haltech solenoid, etc..??

I have no boost contoler. The wastegate is hooked directly to the intake tube. It as my impression that this should keep it at factory boost levels. I hit 10psi at about 5500. This wasn't sustained boost, I just floored it for a sec to see if the new BOV was working. I only had the pedal down for about 2secs tops.

You'll need a boost controller, PERIOD!

I was able to bend 2 rods while spiking up to 20+psi. Those rods won't take that kind of abuse for long.

The line from your wastegate has to go to the electronic device or manual valve as a way of controlling boost. Running straight to your intake, the valve in the wastegate would never open, therefore you'll see alot of boost around 3000 rpm.

the wastegate needs a boost reference. if you have a poor reference, then the wastegate will never see any pressure therefore it will not open. i was running my wastegate off the back of the intake manifold for a little bit and worked fine.
