Re: Waxing Carbon Fiber Hoods?
iv waxed mine like 6 times in the past year and it makes a HUGE differance in the look. i used Black turtle wax. Awsome stuff. in comparison to other CF hoods mine was way better looking.

Re: Waxing Carbon Fiber Hoods?
Yeah wax is a must for the carbon fiber hoods and a polish is for looks only, it won't help protect from the elements.

Re: Waxing Carbon Fiber Hoods?
Close...but you forgot to mebchion the polish is a light abrasive enabling it to take the very top layer of oxidized paint (or other material...)off thus making it shiny. Wax just makes a coat over the paint, making it shiney.

you wax it first (car) and then polish it, at least thats how I do it in body shop and was learned to in college

"menchion" is actually spelled 'Mention'. I've seen you do that a few times.Originally posted by MX3-Freak:

Re: Waxing Carbon Fiber Hoods?
Wax before Polish?!
whoa... i thought the polish was a light abbrasive to take off dirt and stuff.... then you used the wax to protect it from UV and stuff... thats what i've done with all my cars...
2 coats polish... 3 coats wax.. all by hand. takes about 2 hours... but its worth it.. damn car can blind someone when you look at it just right

Re: Waxing Carbon Fiber Hoods?
polish first, then wax....if the hood is new...you shouldn't have to polish it.....just hand wax it my friend....
whats the point in polishing a new piece.....it'd be like buffing your car when you bought it yesterday off the show room floor.....pointless

Re: Waxing Carbon Fiber Hoods?
omg, i can't believe I just read that!
Polish is like a sandpaper almost..its an abrasive. The CF hoods made for our car had a clearcoat thus using polish is the way to go to get rid of any deposits, chemicals and light scratches in the coat.
After polishing it...THEN you wax. you NEVER evAr wax before polish, thats just silly. Wax is simply a protectant and isn't even necessary.
If you want to improve the appearance, polishing is the way go to. Waxing a car that needs a polish is just a half-azzed way to temporarily improve its appearance and make it look shinier than it is.

Re: Waxing Carbon Fiber Hoods?
Duh!!!! Now seriously always polish before wax, ofcorse!!!!! Make those hoods shine before you protect them with wax. If I could afford one i'd be polishing it for hours!

Re: Waxing Carbon Fiber Hoods?
many of you are right about polishing before waxing.....but polishing isn't something that you do all the time...just once in a blue moon.
