cruise control electronics

Post by jplar »

I'm looking to assemble stock cruise control in my 92, and I'm curious as to what parts I'll need to complete it.

I already have this part that is attached to the steering wheel.

I've also noticed that two buttons opposite of the hazard and defrost ones are "on and off" switches for cruise control.

I was wondering what other parts or electronics I'll need to complete it, thanks.

You have that level on your 92? I have sterring wheel controls with the cruise on and off mounted on the 2 buttons on the left side of the dash

I bought this particular part from ebay, I've see the two buttons and as you mentioned, the things attached to the steering wheel. I'm just hoping someone can tell me if the stick thing I have is all I need or if I'm going to need some other parts to get this thing going. Peace.

You prolly will not be able to do that. Their are two buttons on the dash for on and off, they run to the ECU I think and the Set Coast and Accelerate/Stop (momentary) buttons are set to ressistors (1 being a 240ohm and the other being a 910ohm) and they route to the ECU and from the ECU the unit that sits on your trottle to hold the speed. So what I've managed to find out is that my 93 SOHC dosen't even have a wireing harnest for the Cruze control so i'm guessing that
the SOHC arn't able to have CC, due to the fact that their ECU's arn't compatible. just my guess. my GS on the other hand I just spent all day building a box to move my acc/coast buttons to other locations. Maybe i'll right a FAQ on it..... or maybe i'll try to forget the whole nightmare.

My question you is, did you have a cc system before this or are you adding one? If you are adding it, you would be better off just leaving it the way it is, unless you have loads of time to add unsprung wieght... here is a link to my reasoning

Thanks to everyone who responded. I found out from my local dealership that it is in fact an aftermarket lever. I wound up going to a place near me that does all sorts of customizing and they installed a cc no sweat.

MX-3 Freak: I didn't have a cc in the car before and the link you provided was ultra helpful!
