You are going to have a CF dash. Now, what would be nice to know is whether it will be a full GF dash or just an OEM dash trimmed in CF. Knowing now CF crazy you are, I bet it is a full CF dash. I think you are CF crazy....
Re: my latest project *PICS*
That's great. I want to do that too.
Maybe I could if I could s**t money.

Re: my latest project *PICS*
My guess would be just to cover your dash in CF Cloth.

Re: my latest project *PICS*
its goign to be a full cf dash replacing the dash pad only. the vent tubing for the a/c system (although i no longer have a/c, i still have the vent coming from incoming air from the outside) will also be cf and i will be bolting everything onto the dash's metal frame.
pics coming in a few minutes.

here are the updated pics. just removed the female mold a few minutes ago. used the original dash pad as the male mold and made a second female mold which goes on top of this. vacuum-bagged the sucker while curing for the best ratio of strength to weight.
i decided to just reuse my old stock vent tubing. its too complex of a shape for me to compose. for those of you wondering, all the mounting brackets will be made of fiberglass mounting brackets that are pre-made for fiberglass projects, which you attatch to whatever you're working on.
i'm also thinking of remaking the dash frame out of tubing. its ridiculously heavy (about 30 pounds) and can definitely be lighter. im glad this isn't my daily driver)
EDIT: btw the plastic parts such as the area under the gauge cluster and around the a/c vents will also be reused. they're probably going to be trimmed from the old dash and placed on the new dash.

mitmaks, if you are a member of off-topic.com, i can give you a post about discussing my cf dash and im giving them some quick tutorials on getting started.
i recommend a visit to http://www.carbon-werks.com/forum/ to get you started, i assume you're skilled in composites already through fiberglass, so this should be a cinch for you.
icancomposites.com has some very NICE and easy to work with fiber, but is VERY delicate and may need an extra set of hands to handle.
uscomposites.com has good prices for their resins/hardeners/surfacing wax for cf fabric, and some of their fabric is very nice, but they either come in small widths or cost a lot of moolah.

Re: my latest project *PICS*
btw i didn't wrap my dash, its going to be a full replacement, but if you're going for the look of it, there's no problem with wrapping your dash in cf.Originally posted by mitmaks:

Re: my latest project *PICS*
ok here's the other piece i did tonight. did a crappier job of wrapping because i didn't use a mold this time. its messed up on the left side. i will see if i can touch it up more. hopefully by then, it'll look nice enough to flash on the mx-3. this is an engine shroud, mostly looks. i'm most likely going to scrap this one, but we'll see.

Re: my latest project *PICS*
yo.. i was thinkin about a CF Intake Manifold.... would that be possible? like to just wrap it with cf? but then would the cf melt because of the heat? and also the manifold expands with heat right? lol i dunno i just really wanted to do that. like carbon fiber coverd intake mani and valve cover
