how can i paint this?

Post by 93-Spec-Edn »

hi

as shown in the image, i have this black plastic trimming running accross the whole of my car. it's good because it prevents other cars from scratching up my car with there doors, but its looks gay IMO. Whats the best way for me to paint it to match my body?

Thanks

Right, the trim does look a bit odd on the MX-3 but wouldn't painting it defeat it's intended functional purpose in the first place + be a pain to maintain. Assuming ya could paint it, think of what it would end up looking like after a few door dings have the black rubber showing thru in spots. If ya decide to leave it on, recommend a good scrubbing and treat it with something like Wet 'N Black spray from Turtle Wax. That'll renew the surface & give it some UV protection as well.

ok i will remove it. How can I remove it without damaging the car? Also I had this kind of door trim on the sides of the door and its left glue where I ripped it off. How can I remove that?

Thanks

paint thinner will take most anything off, then youll have to wax it where you put on paint thinner though

maybe a local Bodyshop could assist you , we use a decal remover ( rubber wheel attached to a drill ) where I work to help to remove any left over adhesive after taking off the moldings, but like Mitmarks says ...paint thinner usually does the job ...just wax or buff the areas afterwards

and dont go too crazy with the thinner, as it eats paint just as well as the glue your tryin to remove....

wont harm your stock paint at all, ive did it on my raspberry metallic SE, of course if its got MAACO paint job on there it will eat through it, but it wont eat through cured clear coat. And if you use eraser wheel you can burn paint if youre not careful
