racing seats

Post by marshmallow15 »

has anyone tried those generic racing seats by axe or dad or 3a on ebay? its the next item in my interior project and i may reupholster them. wondering if anyone knows if the universal sliders fit on our cars or if we need to fabricate brackets for them.
btw which do you think would look good with a full black interior: light gray seats or red (i plan to get the recaro style where the seat is flat at the top)

I did the 3a racing seats from ebay.
I really like them to tell you the truth.
You can't use the universal sliders, but thats okay because if you are somewhat creative all you do is:
-Match up the bolt holes on the racing seat with the bolt holes on the MX-3 seat.
-Get some (I think I used) 3/8" Spacers to bring the short side of the seat up to level, as the MX-3 seat has one bracket that sits lower than the other on each side.
-Drill new holes where the racing seat bolts line up with the stock seat mounts, and bolt it all together. :welder:
I might be able to get some pictures by Thursday if anyone will host them for me... or I could just email them to you? whichever works...

john, do the racing seats sit any lower than your stock seats?

no they sit at stock height because you build them up to the correct height with the spacers.
If you remove your OEM seats from the brackets, you will see what im talking about. The mount on each seat that is closer to the door sits about 3/8" lower than the other mount of that seat, so you build it up to level with the spacers...

Hell yeah to those 3A Racing seats! I saw those in Pep Boys last week. THeir $159 a pop and come with the brackets and all that good stuff, its awesome to see a pic of an MX3 with them. The fit nice and look good. I'm definately going up and getting a pair.
