a GS is a v6 1.8L
130-132Hp

a KL(sometimes refered as a KLDE or KL03) is a 2.5L engine from a probe gt, MX-6 LS 164 hp.
or a Millenia (170hp)?.

a KLZE is a Jspec version of the American KLDE.
200 HP

a KFZE is basically a 2.0L version of the KLZE. Its Jspec as well and is 170 HP.

a KF is the non JDM version KFZE. Its 140 HP, and is not found in America.

a KJ is a 2.3L Supercharged Millenia motor. I believe is 210 hp.

The four cylinder MX-3s came in 2 versions. SOHC and DOHC. (single over head and dual overhead cams.) the SOHC is a B6 (not sure if thats the entire name of it but there are many versions of the b6 - Miata, 323,ect.) The 91-92 came with an SOHC 88hp. The early 93 models had the SOHC. The later 93+ models had the DOHC and were continued on till the end of production . And the DOHC has 105 HP 110lb Tq.

There is a 1.5L in Japan, but Im unsure the specs on it, but noone would want that swap anyways.

the 1.8L V6 in the GS MX-3 is a K8
V6's are K series like the B,D,K,H,F in hondas)

The High out put versions have -ZE at the end.
The J-spec 1.8 is the K8-ZE

Like it was already stated
K8 -1.8
KF -2.0
KJ -2.3 supercharged miller cycle
KL -2.5

ALMOST all the ZE's are J-spec and were not sold in america, The B6-ZE was found in Miatas in america.

For 4 cylinder swaps you can use the turbo 1.6L B6-T from the mazda 323GTX found in america from 1988-91 or the Jspec 1.8L 4 cylinder BP-T from a 1994 and up 323gtx or gt-R.

Cool, that's a good write up.
I'm wondering though, what all is added/changed to turn the engines into the ZE's (and with the added HP then)? I mean a KLDE or K8 are much easier to come by here than the ZE's and if we could take one and turn it into a ZE...

from what i know, the kl-ze has higher compression pistons, hotter cams, better porting, and if you get the right one a better intake manifold.
92' mx-3 gsr, built engine, forged internals, p/p ze heads. t3/t4e .63/.60 turbo, udp, msd ignition, millenia s injectors, millenia im, water cooled intercooler, afpr, fmu. running at 7 psi right now

So, if you were to rebuild your regular engine with better pistons and cams and then had had it ported & polished you would be looking at something pretty close to a ze?

that all depends you cant turn a k8 into a klze unless you want to spin some MAD CASH, but you can do a kL into a Ze but then for the same price you spent on doing the conversion you could of done a turbo system that would out perform the ZE stock but then again you could do the klze swap for the price of both.
