cleaning the valve cover
What is the best way to clean the valve cover on a 4 cylinder engine (1994)? I'd prefer not to take it off. I just want to get it nice and shiny, like it used to be 8 years ago!
Thanks!
Re: cleaning the valve cover
Yeah, I would like to know how too. I tried using engine detailer and cleaner, but that didnt do much work, it still looks dull and dirty.

Re: cleaning the valve cover
You might wanna try some metal polishing scotch brite or allow/metal polish made by mothers. you can get it at walmart for a few bucks....Thats what i've used on alloy rims before and it's not too bad. Watch out with the scotch brite though, if you get too heavy duty you'll have scratch marks.

I made my valve cover nice and shiny, looks pretty good. I have some pictures, but I don't have a server to post images off of.

Here are some links to the pics:
pic 1pic 2
pic 3
Basically all I did was take some simple green(degreaser/cleaner) cleaned it up and then took some very fine sand paper and sanded it down a bit. After it was to the point were I thought it was good enough I took some blue magic metal polish and shined it up.
[ August 03, 2002: Message edited by: powerman_5000 ]
