speedhut gauge face

Post by marshmallow15 »

hey i just got my gauge face and had two questions.
- do i have to remove most of the dash surrounding the gauge to get it off, or can i take it off directly?
- are the gs indiglo gauges compatible with the mx3 rs?
the guy from speedhut told me that it will, but there will be a little difference in the mph accuracy and the face would look a little shifted to the right.

and btw. where can i find the ground wire and the 12v power wire that i need for the gauge? is soldering actually necessary to help seal the electrical connections or can i just twist them together and use electrical tape to wrap them?

Ground it on the bar with a screw in it thats bedind the gauges. I found a 12V wire that runs to my dimmer as my Power wire.It turns mine on with my lights.

ok to answer your question about which wire to use behind the dimmer switch. The colour should be red/black. I used this wire for my keyless entry for the light flash feature. Grounding is basically connecting the circuit to the cars negative terminal on the battery. If you follow the negative terminal wires from the battery, you will see that it goes down to the body of the car. So you can connect the ground wire to the metal chassis of the car or metal object connected directly to the chassis. It is just easier this way.

sorry I'll be more specific
there should be 3 wires on the dimmer switch, one red one, one black one, and one red/black striped one. Looking from the top down the red/black striped one should be below the black one. Use a volt meter to test the red/black striped one, should provide 12V when you turn on the switch. also checkout the online shop manual z-wiring diagram page z-072 for the park light wiring diagram.
Hope this help better

explain to me how many wires you have to hook up?
so far I'm assuming two, one positive and one negative. the negative must be connected to the chassis(bare metal not painted) or to the metal part of the dash. I used the bolt just above the fuse box to ground my keyless entry system. The positive (should have fuse) must be connected to the red/black striped wire on the dimmer switch which provides a 12V power source when the park lights/lights are turned on. any other wires?
Hope this helps some more.

nope that's basically it. my gauge from speedhut came with a two-color inverter. i have to connect a yellow and orange wire from the el panel to the inverter...i have that taken care of...then there are two wires from the inverter that i have to connect to the 12v power source and to the ground. those are the only two wires that i have to connect. thanks madd!

ok. so connecting the wires is as simple as stripping the wire and twisting them onto the stripped 12v wire and sealing with electrical tape?
