Anyone ever cut out their spare tire well??
Hey guys,
Ive been seriously thinkin about cutting out my tire well and then I got to thinkin about cutting out the entire rear behind the gas tank and welding in a piece of 1/8th plate steel and insetting my NOS tank and battery. I figure if I weld it to the frame that it should be just as structurally sound as OE but what do you all think? I now have a plasma cutter and want to play!!

its not enough metal to matter, and if u cut it out and filled the hole, u may save 1 lb.

On Hot Rod TV, they did that with a Charges. Just put a sheet metal and put a fuelcell in the trunk to save on weight. It looked really easy to do. Just need a plasma cutter or a really good saw.

Re: Anyone ever cut out their spare tire well??
Well I dont think I will be saving much weight as I am using 1/8 plate steel and making a battery box too. I might even add a few pounds. Also with putting in the roll cage I think my car is going to be about 125 pounds heavier or so...
but hey.....more boost cures that problem!!

Re: Anyone ever cut out their spare tire well??
what about trying to fit your battery and bottle in the spare tire well itself? i kinda agree that you won't save much weight and you'd still risk frame structure anyway.

Hey Jarid....don't want to sound like a ****, but it would be nice if you could update the 14 people who have sent you money, about what is going on with the CF hood groupbuy? You haven't cashed my check yet, so i trust ya and everything, but it'd be nice if you posted an update in the GB thread about what is going on with it?<p>I'm not the only one wondering. I talked to Jevon who lives near me too and he was getting pissed about the whole situation. I'm not...i just want to know whats up.
