Re: Motor Mounts Install?
i still think you would need a hoist dude, unless you want to try doing one mount at a time and just hope the engine doesnt move from its position so you can install the new one, but i doubt that would work very well.

Re: Motor Mounts Install?
good luck trying to do it without a engine lift... especially the passenger side one.. sionce the other three are on the more driver side the motor tend to drop a bit w/o a lift.
My advice is dont even try it without a lift.

Re: Motor Mounts Install?
Could someone explain to me the benefit of aftermarket motor mounts?
And I assume Mazdaspeed motor mounts would work with a KLZE?

tons fo info in a few quality posts already. Theyre stiffer and therfore you lose less power from movement and yes, they work with any K series motor.

Re: Motor Mounts Install?
You can do it without a hoist, I have. Just use a tiny bottle jack on your oil pan with some sort of soft material between the jack and the oil pan. You may have to use a pry bar to move the engine around a bit here and there, just be careful what you pry on.

Re: Motor Mounts Install?
thanks guys.. hehe i will try to get a hoist, but if i can't i guess i'll try the jack idea. and Asbath, my mounts are shot, and one of my bolts is rusted apart, so that was my reason for replacing them.. and mazdaspeeds because i wanted stiffer mounts for the ZE

Re: Motor Mounts Install?
no reason you can't use a jack on that side.
Just use a peice of wood between the jack & oil pan to prevent scarring it, or denting it inward.

Re: Motor Mounts Install?
Like gro and mx3man said, find a flat board put it on top of a jack and place under the oil pan and your good to go. Replaced mine like that 2 yrs ago and did my buddies neon earlier this week

Re: Motor Mounts Install?
Are you joking??? Lifting the engine up to put a mount in isnt "risking your life". There is no way the engine can fall down that far. It's hooked up to the tranny, which is held in place by the half shafts.Originally posted by mdavis:

Re: Motor Mounts Install?
When I put my mx-3 on jack stands on the sides the engine is still way close to my face. I still think it could definitly f* you up.Originally posted by mx3man83:

Re: Motor Mounts Install?
I don't see how doing that is dangerous. If you don't remove all of the mounts at once, you'll be fine in the event of a jack failure. If you jack up the engine, the nremove the x-member and two lower trans mounts...you still have the two top mounts holding the trans & side of the engine up, it might sag a bit, but it won't fall on top of you.
Besides..you don't have to get WAY under the car to remove all that crap anyways assuming you remove the xmember (makes it a million times easier).
Another good idea is to BUY A DECENT JACK THAT DOESNT FAIL. Don't buy that 20 dollar walmart crap. A good jack costs at least 100 dollars and never fails. The Jack I have has 6-years of hardcore abuse, at least 20 motor swaps and never once decreased in height once I set it. Still a good idea to always use jackstands of course.
