Front oxygen sensor (How the hell...)
How the heck did you guys get this sucker off (Front O2 Sensor)? I was out there for literley 2 hours trying to get my old O2 off. I loosened it MAYBE ~1/4 of a turn...all that time, and it's still holding on there!
Any suggestions? It is counter clockwise to loosen...right? So freakin' mad at this pos!

Let your engine run for a few minutes so the exhaust is hot, the o2 sensor comes out a lot easier.
See you in my rear wiew!!

Re: Front oxygen sensor (How the hell...)
what kind of socket/wrench are you using to get it off?
if you haven't already, get a O2 sensor socket. you can rent them from autozone (if they have them up where you live). And a 1/2" ratchet. I used a cheater pipe on mine. I had to use a 3/4" extension and i loosened it with ease.
using rust eater helps.
And yes, counter clockwise. in other words you'd be pulling the ratchet towards the radiator when loosening.

Re: Front oxygen sensor (How the hell...)
Im actually using an adjustable wrench. It's not slipping or anything like that, it's just this bolt ain't moving. Correction, i got it to turn about 1/4 of a turn counter clockwise in about 3 hours yesterday lol.
I don't think i want to use the O2 sensor socket. Why? Cause in order to fit it over the O2 sensor, i would have to cut the wires at the base of the O2...so that i could get the socket over the sensor. If i cut the wires, and i can't get the sensor off...then im screwed.

Thats the entire point of a 02 sensor socket, to beable to use a ratchet without cutting the wires. It looks like this, so that you get an idea of what i mean.

Re: Front oxygen sensor (How the hell...)
dood, no wonder you can't get it off. Its hard to get ANY torque with an adjustable wrench, or any open-end style wrench.
look at the pic T-rose posted...thats what I used and it works great, just put the wires to the side and pow-whack, o2 sensor is out, i didn't even have to use any kind of penetrant.

Re: Front oxygen sensor (How the hell...)
For taking it off you dont even need that special socket. Just cut the wires and then break the smaller metal part of the O2 sensor right off. Then you can use a regular old socket on it. I've had to do that with more than a few stuck 02 sensors. If your replacing it why are you trying to keep it intact is the way I look at it. The socket with the slot for the wires like to bend outwards and slip if the sensor is really stuck.

Depends on how extreme you need to get with the torque. My car was easy as pie to get them off with an adjustable box wrench. But then again, my car's never seen salt.Originally posted by Gro Harlem:

Re: Front oxygen sensor (How the hell...)
quick question... i just bought some ntk universal o2 sensors and i need to know wat colors to match up to the old wiring.
NTK's - 2 black, 1 white, 1 grey
front oem wires - 2 black, 1 white, 1 blue
the black ones are a no-brainer, but i just wanted to make sure with the other two before i hooked up the wrong wires.

The grey is the 626/MX6/Probe equivilent of the blue wire on our cars. So grey = blue.

Re: Front oxygen sensor (How the hell...)
Alright, picked up one of these crazy 02 sensor socket things today. I'll attempt to get this damn sensor off within the week...hopefully this will do the trick.
Re: Front oxygen sensor (How the hell...)
I just tried one of those today... it just wouldn't come off! i'm gona have to try the break-the-old-sensor method. oh and good luck getting the old sensor off, quicksilver.Originally posted by TsiMiata:
