Cold Weather problem!!

Simply put.. my car will not start in cold weather (-10 onward).. it turns over, but never catches.. I bought a new battery yesterday, didnt help any.

is this a problem of, its just too damn cold..wait until it warms up.. or is it a sensor?..invest in a block heater maybe?

check tha basics.

make sure you have good spark to the plugs
and that there is fuel getting into the cylinders.

If both are ok, then its probably flooded.

If you know its flooded, then all you can do is wait until the fuel evaporates.
It also helps to put the gas pedal all the way to the floor and crank the motor over, then wait a little, then retry.

Gently press the accelerator to the floor and keep it there while cranking the engine. That, believe it or not, cuts the fuel off, so the combustion chambers dry out enough to start it. When it catches, lift foot.

does it turn over slowly? What about the starter? That would be my second check after the battery (if indeed it sounds slower)

pull out all the spark plugs and wipe off any fuel with a rag or paper towel, take them somplace warm to let them dry or burn off any left over fuel vapoures with a lighter.

remove the fuel pump fuse or relay, go wide open throttle and crank the car over with the spark plugs out to clear all the excess fuel out of the cylinders.

(you should have a fully charged battery or another car hooked up to it with jummper cables so the engine will crank very fast. keep cranking in 15-20 sec bursts with a 10 second break between cranks.)

after about 2 min of on off cranking, and having the plugs free of fuel, reinstall everything and the car should start.

mine turns over slowly but doesnt start when i connected it to other car and tried starting it. bad battery is my guess huh.

Hey guys,
Sometimes it could just be that you need a simple bottle of gasline anti-freeze. In these cold days, if you don't have your tank up past 3/4 or so it may just be condesation frozen in the lines.
Try it atleast, a bottle is only like a dollar or two.
