what does it take to beat mustang gt
Ok what do you think I need to beat a Mustang gt 95-98? Right now I have an intake and short shifter. What else do you think I need? Dont say get a klze. If I put all the bolt ons would I have a chance? This is with a mx-3 gs.

Re: what does it take to beat mustang gt
Thats tuff to say, I know 1 guy that only has a KL-DE, CAI, 2.5 exhaust, and a lower suspension and he ran 14.6 whis is fast enough to beat a stock mustang.
But he obviously knows how to drive very well. My best time with my ZE is a 15.0.
so I would say a small shot of Nitrous Oxide (40 H.P.) and a VERY good driver with good clutch, good tires, and a lowerd suspension and you should be able to beat a stock mustange GT.
If you are a crappy driver like me then you will need 70-90 H.P. of nitrous (WET KIT!!) oxide, and a good clutch, CAI, 2 1/4 inch exhaust, good tires.
Or a turbo pumping about 6-8 PSI.

Re: what does it take to beat mustang gt
If I added pulleys, throttlebody, and exhaust with cutout to what I have do you think it would be close? I know Im a better driver than this guy.
Or do you think I would still need some nos?
Or do you think I would still need some nos?
Re: what does it take to beat mustang gt
Well, here's the thing. the GT has 225HP and 290TQ, but it weighs around 3200lbs. The GS has 130HP and 115TQ. It weighs only 2500Lbs. Now, if you go by some people (I believe Vaughn has it on his website) and say that 100lbs of weight reduction frees up 1HP, then the GT should only lose 7HP to extra weight. So then the GT still has approx 88HP and over 150TQ on the poor little GS. Remember, TQ is what gets your car moving. So with the KLZE, you're still down 25HP and 100TQ. You're going to have to do some serious power adding to beat it. It will have you WAY off the line, and keep it throughout the race. I think the only way to ensure the win is to boost your TQ figure. The best way would be Nitrous Oxide or a turbo. Nitrous would be the cheapest add-on, but a turbo would be a more enjoyable experience.

Re: what does it take to beat mustang gt
A stock mustange GT with a crappy to ok driver will run around 15.0-14.7, with a great driver maybe 14.4. then you also have to consider the reaction time, I have beat mustanges just with my quick reaction time, they ran a 14.7 and I ran a 15.2, but I won because I got to finish line first because my reaction tome was .520 and theirs was 1.2
the MOST power you will get with canadian tire or pep boys bolt-ons is about 145-150 at the engine.
unless you can get about 180 H.P. you wont come close to the mustange. sorry.

Re: what does it take to beat mustang gt
There's a real easy way to see how much weight buys you. The 1hp per 100lbs is completely bogus. All you need to do is divide the weight by the Hp. That gives you a power to weight ratio.Originally posted by VizualXTC:
Now, if you go by some people (I believe Vaughn has it on his website) and say that 100lbs of weight reduction frees up 1HP, then the GT should only lose 7HP to extra weight.
So for a Mustang 3200/225= 14.2Lbs per Hp
The MX-3 2500/130=19.2Lbs per Hp
Then you can pull out your basic high school algebra to figure how much Hp the MX-3 needs to win-
2500/X=14.0 Which breaks down to 2500/14.0=178Hp
So you need at least 50 more Hp to win.
Then you can figure how much Hp the mustang lost to weight. You just take how much power it would take to make a 2500lb car have a 14.2 ratio and then subtract that from the original Hp.
2500/14.2=176Hp
225Hp-176Hp= 49hp
So 700lbs cost you 49hp

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is a LOT more that goes into racing than power to weight ratio. AND, also, the efficiency of the drivetrain will change the HP-gained-per-LB-lost calculation. The 1HP/100lb was probably an average. Curt also brought up a very good point. In a drag race, reaction time is very important. Just because your car is faster, doesn't mean that you win the race. Driver ability is key. BUT, there is no way in hell a stock MX3 is going to beat a Z4 in any kind of race unless the Z4 is driven by a 11yr old girl. (Yes I am implying that women can't driveOriginally posted by TsiMiata:

But like I said before, it's going to be hard to beat a Mustang GT without some serious power adding. I'd go as far as to say, it's almost pointless without boost. (unless you want to spend $15000 building the N/A engine) If anyone CAN beat a 98 GT without boost, I want a video, and a list of mods for proof. I'm not buying the whole 'KLZE with exhaust, intake, and pully's' BS...sorry.

ok first of 98's arent very fast compared to the new and improved 2000 gt which has 260hp and 302tq.now my friend has one of those and i ran him not from a stop but a 40punch or so and he pulled pretty good we went to about 120 or so and he was ahead of me by maybe 3 cars.anyways though i think if you had a ZE,intake,headers,exhaust,65mm TB or bigger, you could pull a 98gt but for the 2000+ ones you will need a mx6 tranny for the longer gears(well atleast i would like those)these super close ones blow(IMO),and probably some cams and i bet you could pull one.Definately some good tires too though.

Re: what does it take to beat mustang gt
I just compaired the stats of an MX-3 GSR-ZE with a stock trany and one with an MX-6 Tranny on my simulator.
The only difference I see really is that the MX-6 Tranny causes the car to have slower acceleration at lower speeds but slightly faster at 160km/h+ speeds. It also has a slightly higher top speed of 233km/h where as the stock tranny stops at 227km/h. I think the main advantage of an MX-6 tranny is the added torque capacity.
Here's the output from that test.
<img src="http://www.wyldsidetech.com/images/mx-3_comp.gif" alt=" - " />
A really close match for an MX-3 GSR-ZE with basic modz is an Acura RSX Type-S.
Check it out...(sorry, I know it's off topic)
<img src="http://www.wyldsidetech.com/images/mx-3_comp2.gif" alt=" - " />
Anyways, beating that Mustang with a lightly tuned MX-3 GS would be very difficult, unless the Mustang driver is a really, really bad driver. Swap or Nitrous would be the best bet.
Good Luck!
