Tight Gears Shifting

Post by advantiracing »

Hey, my gears seem to be very hard and stiff when im shifing gears, especially from 1-2 or 3-2. Ehat could be the problem and how should i fix it? New fluid, bushings? or new gear box?

Thanks - Peace

Start simple. Have your fluid changed then if that doesn't fix it, check your linkages in shifter, then if that doesn't work, YOU have trouble in the gearbox. :crying:

Sounds like your trany has gear lube in it. Try draining that and putting in some ATF. Gear lube is alot thicker than ATF and when it is cold, it causes harder shifts.

I had that prob and i switched my fluid to redline MT-90. Fixed it. What year and how many km on your car? any leaks?

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dorothy.bradbury/probemx/p_m10.htm has some good advice.

It is significant that it does not suggest using ATF fluid.
Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
Extra thick soundproofing in the boot (trunk) to quieten my stainless steel exhaust system :)

Using ATF is foolish in our transmissions. You WILL destroy the transaxle that way if you run the car hard, the lubrication properties are not sufficient.

Use redline MT-90, it is amazing, and worth the $8/qt price.

atf will not destroy your trans but the sulphur makes it become acidic over time and wears down your synchros. switch to redline and ull be fine. remember to change it because it does need changing every so often.
