Won't Idle

Post by Wrapper »

I have a 92 MX-3 GS with what I think is a 1.8 engine. At first idle was erratic. It would jump back and forth between 900 and 2000 and somtimes higher. Sometimes it would idle so low it would stall. I checked for air leaks, including the intake hose. I reset TPS, adjusted the idle adjustment screw all while jumpered out. Finally I took TB off and cleaned it and ISC. While the TB was off I cleaned the front of the intake opening. The pencil shaped cylinder on the left side of opening was completely closed off.

After replacing TB car will not run without holding the gas pedal. Also it runs very rough. Any ideas to what I may have messed up.

perhaps reset the ECU after you've done all that? not sure if that'll help, but hell it only takes a minute to do.

I've already tried that, same results.

Sounds like you may have a problem with your ISC assuming you've checked for fuel problems first.

I have already tried using another TB, but that didn't correct the problem.

I found out today that if I remove the intake hose the car will stay cranked without holding gas pedal. It runs very rough.
