Failed Emissions Test

Post by SimonPK »

My KLZE with K8 ecu + K8 vaf has just failed emissions:
Hydrocarbons - 6 times the limit at 2.17g/km
Carbon Monoxide - 6 times the limit at 53g/km
but the good news(?) is that NOx is 50% of the limit so it passed for that - so I get the EGR works ok!
What do you think the best way to pass is as I've been told I should be ok with just a KL-02 VAF or should I get a KL55 ecu as well to match the VAF?
thanks!

u should get a kl36 ecu from sean (lazzy), this will make ur car run less rich and give u better gas mileage and power. get that and a fpr, lean out ur motor and try again.

Did you test your car as an Mx-3, or a Modified Vehicle?

it was tested as an mx-3, I don't know if British Columbia has any rules about modified engines etc. I'll try and find out.
I put a KL-02 VAF on last night and I;ll see what that does to the emmissions when I take it later on today - there is a noticeable difference in power and I had to reset the idle as well - maybe the KL-02 vaf will run the KLZE a lot leaner as it will increase the amount of air coming to the amount of fuel the k8 ecu is giving?

Finally!!!!
with KL-02 vaf & k8 ecu my KLZE is clean enough to pass emmissions! In fact it was so clean it got a fast pass half way through the test cycle.
The HC/CO/NO are all less than 50% of the standard,
thanks everyone for your help over the last couple of weeks in doing the swap

I've been told the klze ecu doesn't support the egr which means automatic emissions fail in most places....

So let's see if I have this right -
The KL02 VAF is from the KLDE engine, which lots of people call the KL03 engine, because lots of the parts are stamped KL03 (but not the VAF) ;)
Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
Extra thick soundproofing in the boot (trunk) to quieten my stainless steel exhaust system :)
