Post by mazda_55 »

im just trying to figure out which motor would be best to turbo cuz i want to at least run a 14 in my mx and i would really like to use the t3/t4 turbo any suggestions or anything cuz i went to the races this weekend and there was an mx-6 there with the klze motor and it was turbo and it was doing low 13's but just any input on this at all would be great thnx

Drop in a KLZE, tune it properly and get the right ECU, put in 2.5L headers and adapt your exhaust for the extra length. You should run 14's on that alone. Put in the usual engine modifications, cams, TB, ported IM, headwork, valve job, etc. You should get into 13's with a lightened MX-3 without problems.
It just takes time and money.

KL-DE or some call it the KL-03.

the KLDE and KL03 are not the same engines. The KLDE is a 2.0L not sure from what car, but the KL03 is from American/Canadian MX6, Probe, 626, etc. As far as turbo, in general the lower the compression the easy/safer it is to turbo, hence more people would use the lower compression KL03 which has a compression of i believe 9:1 at ~165hp rather than the Japanese KLZE which yields 10:1 at ~195HP however like previously stated, and properly maintained KLZE will give you more power. Hope this helps

Huh? This is that i thought
KLDE: ASPEC 2.5L, 9.2:1 Compression, ~185hp
KLZE: JSPEC 2.5L, 10:1 Compression, ~200hp
According to what i understand is that running a KLDE turbo, you can have more boost than the KLZE, but all your doing is making up for the lesser compression of the DE, plus a bit more power. Although you will run less boost on a KLZE than a KLDE, you should get more power in the end with a KLZE
[ May 19, 2003: Message edited by: Nd4SpdSe ]

The K8 that the Mx-3 has would be a great turbo motor in my opinion as well. Could put down less torque that the 2.5 liters and still have a good amount of hp. Less broken axles and such. Also you already have this motor. Good luck.
[ May 19, 2003: Message edited by: lazzyie ]
