I am ready to cut it off!!

Post by Cage »

Swapers ... I am to the point where I am removing the shift control rod from the linkage... I have pounded and pounded on the bolt tring to get it to come out....I unbolted the shifter and let it fall on the pipe to relese any pressure that may have been on the bolt....I have even used a jack to push the bolt thru ...to no avail ..I am ready to cut it off with a dremal. I called mazda parts and a new one is only 25 bucks ....that sound right??? He gave me the part number of F52917491 and advice on removing this pig. As you can see I have rounded the end of the bolt hammering.... god my neck hurts ;)

Spray it with liquid wrench and let it sit. Come back to it in a few a bit and tap it with a hammer, should go straight up. Just wiggle it if you have to, use the hammer to bang any rust off.

Looking from below the car upwards, is that threaded section pointing down? If so, you are working on the correct bolt, if the other bolt is the one that points down then you need to start working on it instead. A BFH really does work well though.

hehe, i had that same problem. it was a real P.I.T.A. i ended up spraying it with WD40 and putting a jack under it, then hammering it, and pulling (jiggled it a bit too) the top of the bolt with pliers.
*** make sure you wear goggles when you do that. i almost got rust-dust in my eyes.

Grind the b*stard off at the top. I wasted 4 hours yesterday on that same DAMN BOLT!!!! AHHHHHH
When your gonna have to drill it out. All you need is a regular bolt, don't buy one from Mazda. If I knew the size I would tell you but I won't be down at my parents on friday to finish building the other motor.
IF YOU GRIND IT OFF, BE CAREFUL THAT RIGHT WHERE THE FUEL FILTER IS!!!
[ April 16, 2003: Message edited by: Zoso124 ]

I had this problem when I installed bronzeoil bushings on my car. The bushings froze to the bolt....and i had a hell of a time getting that bolt off.
I got a dead blow hammer and beat the **** out of it while turning it with a wrench...it eventaully came out, but it took FOREVER.
A bolt costing 25 bux? screw that, get one from a junkyard or something.

Wait hold on, move that rubber boot back, my dad just called me and told me there is a bolt in there and all you have to do it take it out. I still can't believe, all the freaking work and it said it was so simple to take this other bolt out. We'll I guess I'll see it Friday morning. I'll take a few pics.

well I had the same prob when I did my swap, and my manual never showed a bolt under the rubber either. So I just left it on the tranny. I had the car jacked up high and just lifted the engine out with the tranny and the shifter linkage all at once! This worked out fine for me, no probs.
