SERIOUS ENGINE PROB! HELP!

Post by Johns93GS »

Hey guys - my GS is acting up on me - here's the problem:
I was driving down my driveway and i put the car into neutral (5 spd) and stepped on the brake lightly to slow the car. The engine just dies and the car keeps rolling - the check engine/oil/parking brake lights come on....
I sit there for a minute - trying to figure out what happened, then i start the car again. I put it in gear and begin to back into my parking space - when I put the car in neutral and step on the brake - the engine dies and the lights come on again...However, the lights aren't on when i drive and im not stalling out cuz im not in gear...
For the past few days, the car has been idling high, and when it is idling it sputters a little bit. I just dont want to ruin my car - do you guys have any diagnosis that maybe you can give me and maybe a little advice?! Thanks!!

check your intake hose.. (the one that is ribbed.. for her pleasure hehe.. )
it will probably have a hairline crack in it that opens up when it gets warm.. also, when reversing the engine probably moved slightly and caused the crack to open up more...
to check.. the best way is to warm up your engine, then just wriggle the hose a little.. see if you notice anything..
that's the most common cause of your problem..
@ds

It just sounds like an idle problem and that your idle is dropping to low. If you have a leak somewhere like there saying previously and you step on the brake it will make your idle move down and if it moves down to far it can kill the car.

does your car jump like a mad cow when you start putting in 1st gear till it hits 2.5 RPM,,, :D
well thats whats been happening to me for the past few weeks which some fellows here pointed me to the intake, and yes there was a crack there which i fixed it by putting some serious ducttape over it :D :D
now it runs perfectly normal,,
going to install a cold air intake soon,,,

Something tells me when you changed the oil you forgot to put the oil cap back on.

Ha no - the oil cap is on... I bought the car about 1000 miles ago, and I have a feeling the oil hasn't been changed in a REALLY long time - good point though, I will see if it is loose or something.
