KLZE in a ford Escort

Post by IvsD »

Yep thats right, thats my plan. I have both car and engine (motor, tranny, J-spec ecu) in my garage.
Now, I have read here that I can use a 1.8 vane air flow sensor. Can I just pull the one from the 1.8 motor currently in my Escort?
As well, I need to grab the motor mounts from an MX-3. Which do I need? The v6, or the I4? I was under the impression that the motor mounts were the same for both, but a Mazda dealership told me different.....same with the axles I need to get.....I4 or v6? Mazda guy says that they are different.
And my final question is, where can I grab replacemnt gaskets for relativly cheap? I want to replace them all before the motor goes in. As well as the belts.
I am located in Canada (Hamilton Ontario)
Thanks in advance---------Greg.

You'll need the V6 mounts and axles. The BP and K8 are totally different, and have entirely different sensors. I assume you have a V6 wiring harness also?

I used to know alot about MX-3's, but not so much anymore. Oh well.

Yes, I have the computer and the harness. So I need the v6 axles and mounts.......
About the VAF sensor, I heard that the 1.8 VAF combined w/ the KLZE computer worked well, is this true, can I use mine?
Thanks for the quick replies guys :) :)

Mazda designed the Escort mind you, if I'm not mistaken they also produced the engines up until 98-99 when Ford began using the Z-Tec. Its like what Mazda did for Ford with the Probe, isn't it ironic how Mazda created some of Ford's most popular passanger vehicles.
As for the VAF the same is used on the KLZE as it is on the 1.8 K8D.

there is nothing original aspec does the swaps daily, as for flaming let him do what he wants! s--- if i had an escort i would throw the bpt in it but thats just me, as for shop manuals you will probably need your year escort, and a 94+ mx-3 or mx-6 factory manual i am pretty sure you can get them off of ebay for like $30, you get the diagnostic boxes for the v-6 too? good luck!
[ September 16, 2002: Message edited by: lazzyie ]

The problem here is that you'll be forcing the KLZE to fit, and after that you have to make room for everything else, somehow. You can put in the KLZE which will give you magnificent power. After that though you can't really go anywhere. Any more bolt ons would be forced to fit under the Escort's hood and turbo or anything else would be out of the question. If you do anything have the engine rebuilt before you drop it in, bore it over as much as is safe, get any extra displacement you can and put in all racing and high performance parts. Once you get that engine in I don't think you'll like taking it out later to do all this so get it done now.

The motor is not that tight of a squeeze actually. I have talked to a couple of the gents from Aspec and they have bolted on lots of "stuff" to the motor, including a turbo setup......I have also talked to a fellow Escort owner who has done the same.
I do fully intend to rebuild the motor, but I want to drop it in, and see what iot can do w/ just a few minor bolt ons, exhaust, etc.......I have plans for it though, but they are "secret."
I have a Haynes manuel for the Scort, but I need to have one for the KLZE as referenc. does the KL03 have the same dimensions (look the same) on the outside as the KLZE?
