restricter plate?

Post by chance »

today i did the tb coolant bypass mod. it definatly helped. when i had the tb off i knowtised that the throtle plate or what ever the plate seperating the tb from the manifold is called, is like a restrictor plate. the hole is smaller the the tb and the manifold. can the plate be safely removed or bored out? will it have much of an effect?

It's just a plate, bore away.

Is it safe to remove it though, or must it stay there?

yes, can this plate be removed completely for maximum air flow? will the gasket seal?

I just took a look at mine, the plate it the same size as the TB, but its smaller than the opening of the IM. I doubt removing it could accomplish anything, perhaps though a larger Throttle Body spacer may be more beneficial.

Removing it would be a bad thing, as it would jack up the resonance of the IM. I've seen a very fast NA FE3 with a spacer like that, but 3" thick. Seemed to work well for him...

I used to know alot about MX-3's, but not so much anymore. Oh well.

The spacer helped to take up some slack in the throttle cable when I swapped the ZE in.

My friend's jeep has a TB spacer that's like an inch or so (with directional blades in it like that as-seen-on-tv Tornado crap). The funning thing is though that people mistake it for a turbo or supercharger because it makes a noise like its spooling up.

so is there any effect, good or bad to boring it out, since it can't be removed
