rear hub/bearing assembly

Post by jpwmx3 »

I guess my rear bearing is going and I was wondering if anybody has had to replace theirs before. How much to replace it by a mechanic?

Got mine for abour 40 each side. Went to Advanced Auto Supplies. It comes as the entire unit, not just the bearing, you'll know what I'm talking about if you decide to break into yourself. As far as a mechanic goes, they will charge alot as they always do. As far as procedure to do it yourself....you have to remove the wheel, remove the bolts holding the brake caliper on and pull the caliper away from the rotor, and then you have to take the rotor off. For this you have to remove the center screw, usually 18- 20 mm then on either side of the center bolt at two phillips head screws, they have to come out too. YOU may have to heat them up a bit. Then ifI remeber correctly, then entire hub/bearing unit comes out and you can replace. Good luck.
