Engine bogging down, please help.
I've had my 93GS for almost a year. At first it ran like a dream. A few months ago my problems began. Took a long trip and half way there the engine began bogging down on accelleration. Thought I got a bad tank of gas. Stopped at a garage and they had to replace all my oil fouled plugs and gaskets. This didn't fix my problem. Took it to a dealer, they fixed several air leaks and suggested I have my injectors cleaned or replaced. Had the injectors and fuel system pressure cleaned, still not better. What happens is I have very little play in my gas pedal. If I push it too far, the engine stutters, coughs and backfires. Sometimes it doesn't want to start, and I've been eating oil. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's pretty disheartening when the dealer mechanics look at you and shrug thier shoulders in confusion.

Sounds to me that oil is getting through the rings (in the piston) into the combusion chamber...

Also sounds to me like Mazda can't keep qualified mechanics at their dealerships.<BR>I've had similar experiences...(with the<BR>dealership, not your problem)

i had same sort of problem, on acceleration i had no power and backfiring, my catalytic converter was plugged
all i ask is that morgan die in a car crash

Thanks, I wondered a bit about the cat converter. Had a blazer years ago with that problem. Will try that first. Hopefully it's not my piston rings, don't want to get into that mess right now.

I had similar problems 2 years back and when I went to check the plugs one of the spark plug wires came out dripping oil....<P>Luckily, I was still under extended warranty and they replaced my gasket. After that it ran like a champ.<P>If it's not an oil leak, I would look into changing your spark plug wires. I've found that the stock wires need to be replaced at least every 15,000. It's probably worth it to get Magnecors instead, if you can find 'em for a decent price. I just bought a set of new Borg Warner wires for my 1.8L V6 on Ebay for $35.
