Is it bad to *switch* over to synthetic oil?
My car is at 127,000km and it's always had 10w 30 in it from the start. Is it bad for the engine if i was to put 5w 30 synthetic oil in from now on? Thanks

I've heard bad things about that. I dunno tho. But I'd wait until you change the oil before putting synthetics in.

one thing to make sure though is that if ur car has high mileage bc synthetic is thinner and can leak out the gaskets a lot more than regular oil.
Dan

I am at 220,000 kms, and using synthetic oil, and I was going to look for an oil leak and stuff, but I guess that's what it is.
Should I use a "normal" motor oil then, or just fix the gasgets???
Thanks, Aiden.

I'd replace the gaskets AND run the real oil.

ya and remember to use an engine flush because synthetics have more detergents and the extra crud that it breaks lose will be floating in your oil and can clog things.....hey man with high milage try useing that max life s--- it's suppose to "condition used seals"

go back to regular oil, i personally have great luck with castrol gtx 5w-30 over the others i have tried (penzoil, quaker state).. and it would be a good idea to replace the gaskets as well
Dan
