Engine Swap trans question?

Post by Cage »

I have a 1993 Mx-3 GS with 1.8 V6 I am swaping the engine for a 1999 626 2.5 V6. The engine is out of an automatic trans 626 and my Mx-3 is a manual ...my question is am I going to have any mounting issues I am still looking for a 1999 ECU from a manual trans 2.5 V6. Thanks!
Jeff M

You won't have any mounting issues but don't bother looking for a 99 ECU. Look for a 92-95 ECU and a VAF from a Probe GT/626/MX-6.
Reason is the 99 uses an MAF, to use this would require the ECU AND a wiring harness swap!

hmmm.. thanks for the advice ...question I was informed that an MAF was better than a VAF. Also my new 1999 2.5 V6 has 4 O2 sensors not 2 ..Won't this cause an engine code if I have a pre OBDII ECM?
thanks,
Jeff M

Thats why your going to take the sensors off of your 1.8L and put them on the new 2.5L, the 1.8L ECU won't be able to read any codes from the MAF.
OBDI (92-95)
OBDII (96+)
They won't work together.
