Platinium plugs if they are well designed
should last much longer and keep their performances during their life.

plat ones have plat tips on them and suppose to last longer.
tip: whenever you buy spark plugs make sure the gap setting is correct for the car.

Platinum tips last longer and the Image actualy has 4 tips as oposed to one Image giving it more firing power.
I like mine, they were my first mod a mechanic suggested them to me as a cheap mod and so I became hooked on trying to get the most power out of my baby MX-3 as possible.
Being that I had no other mods when I installed them, I could definately feel an increase in power. Not much mind you, but enough to get me thirsty for more!

A few mazda mechanics told me that I shouldnt be using platinum plugs. they said that mazda motors, and just about all non-v8 motors do not burn hot enough to take advantage of platinum plugs.

Platinum plugs just last longer. They don't burn hotter or have a bigger spark. And as far as the +4's go: you can only have one spark each time. Congratulations! You bought the gimick of the year! :D

I was just going by what I was told. And I do hate to differ, but I put new Plat plugs in my RS on Friday, then put new NGK plugs in on Monday, and the car actually ran better. Now I can say for sure that that was the issue, but this is what I experienced.
Im not referring to the plug itself is a hotetr plug, but the ignition system itself is a hotter system. In other words, it uses alot more energy. We have 70/90 amp alterantors. Thats not a very powerful electrical system. The mx-3 was built for fuel economy, hence the reason we have no power. Also, probably the reason lots of people have problems with idle and such after upgrades/mods.
Here is some spark plug links.
http://www.centuryperformance.com/spark ... >

http://www.strappe.com/plugs.html
[ April 15, 2002: Message edited by: Custommx3 ]
