Front Bearing

Post by mrspanky79 »

Ok this is my problem in the spring my cv boots where cracked (both sides)so a replaced them. In doing so the left(passenger) hub nut gave me a hard time to come off, wrecking the bearing in the process so i put a new one in. Since then I have replaced the same one in the summer and know it has just gone again. Do's any one have any idea why the bearing keeps going?

i was talking to a mechanic the other day, right before replacing the whole spindle assembly, and he said if you don't tighten it hard enough, it will mess up the bearing, try using a torque wrench, if you didn't do it before
Check out my ride and leave some feedback please!

Mr spanky, I believe the last person is corect when saying you should have used a torch wrench.
But what I wanted to tell you is that you can save over 50% on front wheel bearings buy perchasing them for a 92-94 Ford escort.
When I replaced mine Mazda gave me a price of $80each and I picked up the escort bearings for $30.
Just an Idea.

Canadian Tire some were around $40 that also might be the problem. And when i put the nut on i tighten it as tight as i can and till the old marks (bent in part).

I worked at a Crappy Tire garage and had my wheel bearings done there by someone I could see that was decent, you can take it in for a free quote and do the work yourself if you wanted, they'll do alot to get your business.

i did the work my self but i bought both bearings from Canadian tire. I just would like to know why they keep going? I cant see how the torgue of the wheel nut will do it because there is a pin in there that holds the bearing in. If any one has any other ideas why or could explain it to me, thanks.

Mr Spanky, i am a mechanic, the only thing that sounds like is u have to much play to with the new barring(not having it tight to begin with)when u put a new wheele barring in that axil nut has to be very tight because any play u have in it will reduce the life of the barring. i would deffinatly look in a service manule for the torque spec. and use a torque wrench as sugusted befor.

thanks for the help im starting to see what you are saying im going to give it another try if I cant fined a different spindal this week. You are a mechanic how do you get the bearing out and it with out taking the spindal off of the car? I have been taking the spindal out and doing it on a bench press thats why i think we might of bent the spindal a little.

sorry i didnt get back sooner, that should be a press in barring (much like the ford escort) Snap-On makes a tool to do thoes type of barrings on the car, but it is vary expensive and not necessary unless u do them regularly. in your cace the best way to do it is to take the hub a--. off and use a hydrolis bench press. when u do make very shure to have the barring straghtbecause u can get the barring in the hub croked which can also kiss thoes barrings in a short amount of time. also make shure that the barring is seated all the way in the hub. i dont think that ive seen anyone bend a hub but anything is possible. most of the problems i see are with barring eg. not in all the way , in croked , axil nut loose,
if u have any moor questions let me know glade to help.

Thanks for the help I think i know what the problem is know. By what you are saying I think we might of had the bearing slightly croked. Its very hard to do on a bench press.
