Loud rumbling sound, wheel balance??

Post by A.S. »

I blew my right rear tire and had it replaced. Now, when I go over 60K/hr I hear a loud rumbling noise from the back that almost becomes defening after a while and it goes away once I hit around 90-100k/hr. Could it be that my wheels aren't balanced or could the wheel be worped? or could it be something else?

I had the same prob 2 months ago...90% sure it's wheel bearings ... that goes for around 80 $CAN (bearing comes with new hub) not counting job time, but it's easier to do it yourself, or with a friend. If not sure, get it done by a professionnal.

1- take off the brake boot,
2- take cap off, 32 mm + wrench for nut-if rusted, use ReleaseAll or WD40
3- pull and VOILA!
take new hub and redo in reverse order :)
(correct me if i'm wrong)
just my 2 cents

Yeah it is the wheel bearing, i had the same exact problem and i changed it and no more annoying sound. The price i got it for from the dealership was about $115(american. So it is kinda pricey to change though. But its necessary though.

So tell me what the difference is between the wheel bearing I'm getting and the "real" wheel bearing?

okay, rear wheel bearings are more expensive, I was just told that yesterday, is it just me or are mx-3's very expensive cars to buy parts for? Also, my mechanic can't figure out if it is the driver or passenger side wheel bearing (on the front). Neither tire has much give, how would you be sure? If no one helps me, I'll have to have them both replaced in 5 days, please save me some $$$!!! Thanks. :)

I would be suspicious except this is the mechanic that I've been going to since I started driving, and he has a very good reputation. But I still need advice!!! Time is running out. :(
