The original size is 5 1/4. There in a bracket plate to fit. You can use up to a 6 3/4. Your preference.

5 1/4 would be correct.

They are DEFINATELY not 6 1/2 Stock.

The brackets on the Stock speaker allow it to fit into a bigger hole.

A 6.5 will fit with no problems.

here's my adapters:
<img src="http://www.oznium.com/gallery/photos/fu ... mazda-mx-3" alt=" - " />

I flipped the factory speaker over, traced around it and cut it out of 1/2 mdf. That's a 5 1/4" speaker mounted ($20, had to have something for a weekend show), and when I finally get components I'll put good ol' 6 1/2's.

The stock speakers are 5 1/4" all around. Check it out at www.the12volt.com or call the dealer.

Nice mounts I did the same thing - a little mdf goes far.
I've put multiple types of speakers in my doors, but end up having to change them because of all the moisture that rusts or wrecks the contacts and destroys the speaker. Anybody make a small enclosure for them so they don't get wet?

I was thinking about doing that but don't really know where to start? any ideas?

those don't push against the grille luckily. I have any idea of what I may do for the next set if they push, but I'm not 100% about it yet.

I've seen someone use a piece of plastic (from a margerine container I think) to protect it from rain. I don't have a fast internet right now so searching would aggrivate me. Maybe someone else can?

Is the MDF better than just drilling and screwing the new speakers directly to the metal? If so why. Cause thats what I did. Seems to work fine.

Thanks,

Would've fastened my new door mounted 6.5's directly too, but used the MDF to gain extra depth needed for enough clearance to crank the windows all the way down. To deflect water penetration made rain "shields" out of the cut-down base of a couple 1 gal. bottles if Simple Green. So far so good...

some argue there's a sound difference. Also, with mdf you get a little more depth which is nice because we are so limited in our cars anyways.
