Do not get your alternator rewound. I've done it before. While the peak output will be more, the output around idle will actually be worse. Then, it'll make more heat, so it'll fail faster than a factory rated one. Then, I've found they can also induce noise into your audio system.

Just find a larger one that's a direct fit with the same plug.

a normal stock alt prolly wouldn't be, but a 60w alt won't cut it with my system and neons and such, I need something closer to 120, but i don't want an overheat danger, I need something that will push out close to 120 or more, and not overheat. I have no idea what I can do...respinning was my first idea...90 from a gs is my second....can they just drop right in and bolt right to an rs? and are there any other alts that will drop right in and how much would they cost, becuase i figured it would definitly be a pretty penny...unless of course someone hsa one to sell...

Why do you need that much power? I was running an 800 watt RMS system in my 4 cyl 626, and that's only a 70 watt alternator. Never any problems. What're you running? A couple kilowatts?

Ohio Generator $525usd.

dominick@tds.net can get you a good alternator any size you want it. I got a 220 amp adjustable voltage for very cheap. Email him and see if he'll make a small one for you. Great Alternators. Check www.termpro.com's forums (battery section) for tons of reviews on him.

$525, huh? I know Ohio are awesome units, but does that $525 at least include an external voltage regulator?

no, thats the thing, it's not even with all the fixin's! It's 190-200 amps, and solid. I mean at idle it's gonna kick out a ton of power and it won't take much to get it to it's full power (probably around 1200 rpms since they are for competition cars mostly). But my local shop told me 500, I asked around and shops don't get a huge discount so they weren't making any money off of me @ 500. OG will tell you 525 over the phone unless competitors have driven their prices down.
