haha, my car sucks

Post by spicy »

When i first bought my 92 mx, it had frame damage as is. of course, i didn't know this because i'm a girl.
I got the frame all fixed but there's still a good amount of things wrong with it. The fact that I beat it up (twice) might add to that too though. I've got a black junk yard hood now, complete with giant scratch/dent. My front bumper is having a midlife crisis as it is balding on the passanger side (where it was hit twice..what a trooper). Just glued together my headlights yesterday as a temporary fix. Im missing several chunks of them and my hood cant close correctly because they are so busted. (still work though!)
I also have a valve tap..but thats not much to get fixed. I have about 125k miles, but what i'm trying to say is..should i go with this car? I was indifferent at first but I really love my mx now. And I had this crazy idea in my head that when I got money i'd fix it up really nice. I'm asking if it's worth it? I don't know what kind of shape this car was in for the 117 miles it wasn't mine. But so far I've kept up on my oil changes and such..
Are mx-3's reliable in their old age? I mean..if I kept up on all fluid changes and all that? Or should I just sell it and get....get...a HONDA! lol. No, not a honda. But something else anyway. What do you think?
[ January 20, 2003: Message edited by: spicy ]
[ January 20, 2003: Message edited by: spicy ]

Oh, if you know..id also like to know what the mx rear suspension is supposed to look like? because right now...they said mine looks like bolts welded together. soem crazy **** back there, apparently. it handles fine though. exceptional, actually. i was nice and steady as this one car was fishtailing on the same ice in front of me.

 from what you described it looks like it might be a good amount of $ to get it back into shape again, just my .2 cents

i say if you've already started working on it, keep it. i have a 92 MX too, with 160k miles on it. she still runs good, burns a little oil though. new motor coming soon, and even with 88 HP, it's fun to drive.

My 92 RS was a pain in the rear 8). Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but it couldn't hold an idle to safe it's life. Other than that, it wasnt bad at all, and if I hadn't wreckde it, I'd prolly still have it. In all honesty, though, sound's like your car is almost ready to donate parts. 8)
If I found out my car had frame damage, I'd try to sell it asap.

hay i would go with the other guys sell and buy a new one. i have had my mx3 ovet 2 yrs and i have about 138,000 miles on it and it runs fine it a 93 so it just turned 10, and the only thing that i have had to have done is some work on the cluch because of age and also i had some problens with my master cilinder for the chuch. aftre some time the master cilinder would bild up presure making it a chalange to drive but i got it fixed for like $300. other than the few problens i have found it to be a great high milage car.

I would try and sell it cut your loses and get a new mx-3. there are lots out there well i think so anyway.
mines a 96 and the only thing ive had to change is the timing belt and adjust the idle a few times but it only has 91,000 km on it so thats probably why.
well just look for a new one is what im trying to say lol

Hey I'm here to give my 2 canadian cents...
Um, I'll have to agree with the majority and sell the car and find another... I've done the research and this car is really a good car, very reliable. My car has served me good for almost a year and not many problems.
Just a little note for next time you buy a car, take it to a dealer (ie. Mazda dealer for Mazda cars) and get them to check it out before you buy it... they can tell you what's wrong. The 50 point inspection thing... and they can also give you an estimate of how much damage is done and how much repair are roughly gonna cost... that way you can weigh out if it is worth it.
I know you're fallin' for your MX you have now... but there are better fish in the sea...
These 2 canadian cents are worth 3 us cents... woo...

Hey spicy, I wishI could help you, but no-one could figure out what the problem was.. We tried the timing, new throttle body, Map sensor, and a few other things.. I took it to Mazda twice, and they couldn't fix it, but mine didn't shake, the RPMs would drop to probably 40-50 (not exaggerating!) and then it would kick itself back up to like 1 grand.. It wouldn't stall if I had the rear defroster on (?), but it would if not.. weirdest thing I've ever had happen to a car

my rpms drop really low too... im going to say maybe around 3 or 400. it would squeal at the same time too but i finally got my belt fixed. I thought that would fix it too but it didn't.. oh well :\
