For those of you with a hatch cover and Subs...

Post by mx3man83 »

I'm getting another mx-3 in 2 weeks and it has the hatch cover...my current mx-3 doesnt, and the bass was awesome...does the hatch cover muffle the bass at all or distort it in any way(Obviousely, the subs will be in the "trunk")??? If the hatch cover doesnt affect the bass, i wanto mount my 6x9's in the hatch cover....

yes it does muffle the sound and it rattles and putting 6*9 in the hatch will just make it rattle more so take it out as 4 your 6X9 what u gotta do is maybe buy boxes 4 them and put them in trunk or modify the rear speaker holes to fit them

it wont have any effect on bass response. However your cover may rattle depending on your setup. If you plan to add 6x9's to the cover i would suggest reinforcing it.

that stupid cover muffles the sound a lot and makes the worst rattling noise i have ever heard i would def take it out<BR>see with our cars if u face the subs and or ports up the sound waves bounce off the glass and come to the front. it can't do that with the cover on so get rid of it.

I like what I've seen ppl do w/ putting speakers on the sides of the back seats... If I wasn't too busy w/ countless other projects I would probably do that too.

I have one MTX 12" sub in the cargo area w/435 Watts and Infinity kappa 6 1/2"s in the stock location. I have had NO rattle or NOTICEABLE rattle with the cover on. I would recommend keeping the cargo cover for security reasons so everyone doesnt see what you have, and decide they want to break in and steal it.

I think that if your sub is good enough and your hatch cover is still in decent shape then you'll be fine using it. I bet the guys that have rattle are missing some of the rubber on the cover that keeps it from ratteling. I have a 2 12" Boston subs and 500 watt JL comp amp with no rattle. You can also get a 6x9 to fit in the stock rear location. You have to cut a little pice of plastic that is in the way, but it won't effect the integrity of the plastic piece at all.

if you go w/o the hatch cover, expect your car to be broken into and violated :x ... you could always get a limo tint to avoid this
