Alternator Whine
Alternator Whine
in the weekend i bought a second hand fusion 4-channel 1000 watt($340nzl, bout $233 can) amp for my mtx sub and xplod 6x9s. it has a 4 guage wire supplying power and earthed with a 4 gauge to the left suspention strut.(where the seat belt is) the power cables are running down the right side of the car while the rca's are running down the leftside.all was good untill i turned on the car, there was an annoying whine was present in the 6x9's. i looked on the net for a solution and it said to ground the earth wire to bear metal(which i did and to run the rca's on the oppsite side of the, which i did). so i am stuck at the moment with a very soft whine and its slowly driving me mad cause i know its there!!! have any of you had this problem before and how'd u fix it?

Re: Alternator Whine
try "muting" the amp take a old set of rca's cut them an inch from the amp stip them join the together (small iner wire to outer wire) NOT LEFT TO RIGHT
Now turn the car on rev the engine if its still there its the grouning of the amp if it gone its the deck or RCA's
Let me know
Re: Alternator Whine
hey white fish thanks for the help, it helped somewhat. i muted them and there was no noise... sweet... then i pluged the 6x9's in (2 of the 4 rca's) one on top of the other and noticed there was no whine, so i preceeded to plug the other two in for the sub and the noise returned!!!! could it be the rcas are creating a field and interfering with each other?? or is the headunit not grounded suffiently enough?
please help i'm going insane knowing its their
hahahaha
Re: Alternator Whine
finally its gone!!! i grounded the head unit to a better point (chassy) and put the rca's over the power cable at tangent and wraped them in tin foil. This seems to have done the trick cheers for the help man
