Problems........

Post by fieval79 »

Alright, I've got a problem!
When I'm playing my stereo at high volumes, for any extended amount of time, it starts getting really staticy and eventually goes out. Now, I've had amps overheat on me, but that isn't what this is. I believe it has to do with the head unit, because I'll turn the head unit off, and then back on, and everything is ok.
Here is my setup:
Blaupunkt head unit
Pioneer amp running 2 6x9's in rear (pioneers)
Legacy series 2 800watt amp running 2 10" JBL Gt series subs.
Could the deck be overheating? I've never had that problem before, and my deck is really hot.........
any suggestions?

it might be the deck. i don't have any exp. with blaupunkt equipment. i guess the only way to see for sure is to borrow a friend's headunit and start cripming...
i guess the 6x9's are the ones causing trouble: if you have signal noise in your amp, when the volume increases, distortion will occur. you could try re wiring the amp. make sure you have a solid ground, and the power wire isn't touching the rcas.
goddluck

How many watts is the head unit putting out? It could be that the factory wireing harness isn't supplying adequate power to the head unit. I'm thinking it's like going from a 50W amp to a 500W amp and trying to use the same wireing. Everybody knows that is a no no! Probably useing a heavier guage power and ground wire to the head unit might just solve the problem. Just an idea. Hope it helps.
Later,
Robert

hey john, it sounds like it could be many things but here are some hints to trouble shooting this type of problem. Check you batterie in your car because unregulated powersupplys in amplifiers draw as much currant as the system will give it so check to make sure you batterie is good. Also check the guage of power wire and ground wire going to each amplifier, make sure they are the same guage. If the deck was the problem then usually everything fails nomatter what so I would probably elimate it from the problem unless it is really old.Ground is most important to amplifiers so make sure it is to the frame of the car and no paint or anything is near it.
Hope this helps?
P.s I am a certified (COQ) electronic Technician and own my own Car Installation center.
Killer Mx3

OK....update....
Hasn't done it in a while. I've realized it was only doing it when the a cd was playing. I think the deck was overheating.....
Here's the scenerio: I pulled the deck out, and noticed that both of my front and rear outs for the amps were plugged in, AND the front speakers were wired into the deck. I unplugged the front speakers from the deck (haven't re-wired them yet to an amp yet, soon :) ). So far, it hasn't done it yet.
I noticed it most of all while turning a corner really fast, or hitting the gas (g-forces?) while listening to a cd. Maybe I fixed it, it's been a week, and I haven't had it happen again.....
