Re: Jinxed myself - misfires 150 miles after HEI mod

This is the EXACT SAME THING that is happening to my 93 626 V6. Does your car run then die the first couple of times you start it up too? (cold start?) because mine does, always dies unil the 3rd try where it always stays running. My car misfires real bad if heavy load is added once the car is at i...

Re: Jinxed myself - misfires 150 miles after HEI mod

I am beginning to think i have offended the gods in some way. I manage to get home, run out in the near pitch black, warm up the engine, take out the plugs and prepare to do compression test and.... I cant get the plug thingy in. Looks like I need a deep socket of perhaps 3/4 or maybe 11/16. My 5/8 ...

Re: Jinxed myself - misfires 150 miles after HEI mod

Shameem and SuperK Thanks for the tips. Either of those could make sense. I will try the revving thing. I did this yesterday but wasn't sure what to look for. This was after it started the white smoke issue on Monday. Anecdotally I recall it was not refusing to rev when in neutral in my garage. It d...

Re: Jinxed myself - misfires 150 miles after HEI mod

Anyone think this could be a bad headgasket? eg is this a likely scenario: The HEI and coil mod actually worked after you all helped me identify the wiring differences on the 94 GS. It drove perfectly fine for three or four days and 150 miles. Then started to get misfires under load after the car wa...

Re: Jinxed myself - misfires 150 miles after HEI mod

Per suggestion that it might be fuel delivery related I checked what i could see of fuel lines. Look fine if what I am looking at is right (thought I was following lines from the fuel filter to the fuel rail). I assume the filter is old. I have not changed it in the 3 years I had the car but it does...

Re: Jinxed myself - misfires 150 miles after HEI mod

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't originally think air metering for the whole issue but maybe it is a component previously masked by some of the other issues. I took off the VAF (this is labled JE-50, right) and it was certainly dirty. Enought to impede physical operation, i don't know. I have tak...

Re: Jinxed myself - misfires 150 miles after HEI mod

I am confused. Please elaborate on how it's misfiring, when it misfires, how bad it misfires, and what rev range. If it is worse at certain speeds, RPM's, temperatures, or any condition. Does it gradually misfire more and more until it's undrivable, and miraculously cure itself over time, or is it ...

Jinxed myself - misfires 150 miles after HEI mod

I freakin' jinxed myself. I waited 3 or 4 days and 125 miles before declaring victory in my long saga of trying to figure out the wiring on the 94 disty while doing the HEI and external coil mod as described in this thread: http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=67376" onclick=&quo...

Re: Update - Thanks for Help with HEI mod wiring on 94 MX-3

Thanks to everyone especially solo_ryder, shameem and Gro Harlem for helping me navigate the HEI and external coil mod, particularly the differences on the 94 disty. I have put about 200 kilometres on the car (125 miles) in the last 3 days. The first time I drove it it was idling weird at intersecti...

Dumb Questio: Help with HEI mod 3pin connector wiring on 94

Thanks to all for the help. I have everything wired up and warmed the engine up and then drove it about a mile. Parking brake was stuck so I had to get it loose. It ran fine but then started running a bit rough, dropped to extremely low speed at idle. Eventually stalled. CEL light came on. It starte...

Re: Help with HEI mod 3pin connector wiring on 94 MX-3

Had a brief delay as the battery would not take a charge (5.5 years old, sitting for the last couple of months) anyhow now that it is tatally freezing in my garage i tossed in a battery and wired it up as per Shameem's advice: Go with the wire colors in the 3 pin plug - blue is switched +ve, Yel/Blu...

Re: Help with HEI mod - 3 pin connector on 1994 Disty

I have said this before but noone seems to listen (not referring to you) the 94 MX3 has a disty that is SPECIFIC to that year and ONLY to the mx3. It is a TOT51717 serial disty. Blue = IG+ (as tested with a test light by me) Red = IG- Yellow/Blue = Tach signal The only difference is the location of...

Help with HEI mod - 3 pin connector on 1994 Disty

Aieeeeeeeeeeeeee, I am sooooo confused, apart from the "what disty is in the 1994 MX-3 GS?" I get to massive confusion about the wiring and pin arrangement of the 3 pin connector. Not sure if this means anything to anyone but my Disty cap inside is marked as Part 411 1 423. Looking at the ...

Re: Help with HEI mod- removing stock coil or disconnect strap

Further on my attempt to do the HEI and external coil on my 1994 MX-3 GS 1.8L K8. Everything was going swimmingly following wil's instructions until I was getting to the point of disconnecting the old coil. The problem is that my disty does not look like the one in his how to. It does look like the ...

Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption in 96 V6

My two cents (or 1.8 cents AUS) I have a 94 GS v6 Fuel tank is 50 litres. When empty light goes on I can add about 38 litres. I don't necessarily think that 12 litres remains although it is probably pretty close. I kept mileage for a while and averaged a little less than 9 litres per hundred kilomet...
