I run my VRIS wired open and it runs fine especially when I am shifting at 8000rpms I know they are open. Besides the low rpm power loss is minimal

For future reference tap on the heads of the bolt with a hammer BEFORE you try to remove them. That usually helps

You can also....if you do it CAREFULLY you can squirt transmission fluid into your throttle body with it running while holding the throttle up so it doesn't die. That will also clean off any carbon build up but I wouldn't recommend it if you still a cat converter

I used a universal cone shaped filter on mine and the made a custom ram air by ducting the air in from the front turn signal holes

the length of your gap changes the size of the spark. You should also always re-gap the plugs besause the same plugs will fit different engines that require a different gap.

Oh...and the gas coming out of the exhaust could be a burnt exhaust valve if you have a sohc 1.6. They are prone to it
